that's fine

but where is the ammo rack in my cupola as I also got ammo racked?

is there any video or game mechanic post that explains how this might happen

The shell penetrates through another shell then ignites it inside the tank which ignites more of the shells which makes big boom!

Is there a replay?

Maybe you were at the Overlord beach and the T57 shot you from above.

Maybe at the exact moment the T57 shot you in the cuppola, another tank shot your ammo rack.

mountain pass, sidescraping behind a dead is7, rear wheels did tip up slightly as I reversed but not hugely,

still playing will see about replay later

The ammo rack is in the turret back. But the cupola is at the same height as the turret roof on the back, as the roof itself is highly sloped but not flat. So there are good chances that a shell getting in from the cupola can hit the ammo rack in the back too.

I thought the ammo rack in the hull, or more accurately the shells which are inert are in the turret but the charges, which are explosive are stowed in the hull where they are safer

That may be true IRL. But in WoT things are simplified, so every part that contains ammo is ammorack.

Just look at Tiger side ammorack, that (IIRC) contained the MG rounds boxes but are still considered ammorack. :)
