Morning,

I was looking for a premium tank to train my soviet heavy crews in, what would you suggest and why?

Defender: high alpha and good mobility, and it can bounce a lot, even against T10s. That'll allow you to brawl with T10s to gain even more XP for damaging a T10 with a T8.

IS 3A: absolutely lovely play style, I mean being an auto reloader, combined with 390 alpha and decent penetration and mobility too. You'll receive more XP if you manage to always penetrate your target.

Gl. :)

Ah, but the IS3A only has a three man crew, and since he wants to use them as a crew trainer it is suboptimal. I like my premium KV2 and trained a lot of crews in it. It goes boom in a funny way and can fit six crew members comfortably.  KV220-2 can be fun to play as well...

If you already have prems that make good credits and you like to play, none. Just play those and buy books.

This!

With the introduction of Crew Books that you can buy for credits, premium tank crew training bonus is not as beneficial. By that I mean you dont need to buy or play a certain premium just for the sake of the crew and tech tree line. You can play whatever premium you have and enjoy, make credits and buy Crew Books.

Ideally, of course, if you enjoy a premium tank and it can train the crew for the line you want...you get credits and bonus Crew XP :B

Point is, nowdays you have a lot more options on how to train up your crew without buying a premium tank ;) So weigh in the options and make a decision that suits you best.

I hadn't even considered this but now you point it out it seems so obvious.

No joke... Churchill III. It gets an XP bonus no other tank has. So you get 1K xp for doing a half-backed game. So it's a rather good crew trainer if you run boosters and have great rounds on top of it.

But yeah. Now with books around, crew trainers are less vital vs income. As getting 2 million credits in a tier 8 prem, takes less games then it would take to get a crew to 100% on the first skill with no boosters.

Churchill III

because it is cheap

on topic - every tier 5 is a good crew trainer because ammo cost is very much balanced there + you can get some nice results with boosters and/or prem account.

if you don't have any of those go and grind kv-1 :)

PS: KV-1 is still a great learners tank. it can sidescrape. it can derp and - well - tank. but it got no view range.

Object 252U

But don't buy it expecting some OP Unstoppable monster. Its good, sure. But severely overhyped.

Still the best russian premium heavy on tier 8 though, But that doesn't really mean much when its compared to tanks like the IS-6/KV-5 (IS-3A Is better than the 252U, But worse for crew training)

I can't speak much for lower tiers as i don't play low tiers much.

To echo the sound advice of Balcora and Pans, get a Churchill III, it's cheap and effective

You might also consider a KV220 next time it comes up for sale
