why, wg, do they specifically select teams so that one is clearly weaker and loses?

Oh no, I thought it was going to go this way. No, matchmaker doesn't do that. As far as I am aware, it doesn't give a toss about player skill and one team ending up significantly worse than another is just an unfortunate occurrence. It basically just tries to match tanks up based on class and tier, so that both teams have the same number of tanks by class (so let's say 5 Heavies, 3 Mediums, 2 TDs, 3 Lights and 2 Artillery; it'll mirror this for both teams) and mostly tries to match those classes by tier (you do pretty often end up with games where you have say 1 Tier IX Heavy vs. 2, so you get a bonus Tier VIII and thus get some other Tier IX Tank).

There's plenty of talk about this kinda thing in the Matchmaker thread and while I wouldn't recommend reading back through 200 Pages, active posters there such as Baldrickk are pretty well versed to answer your questions on the matter.

Think more that the T-34-85 just hogged all the damage while the others played (too)cautiously. Can't tell without replay, but I have done the damage hogging stuff myself & then the low damage guys aren't bad. Just slow/unfortunate to have me on the team when the reds don't offer much resistance to my armored tank plowing through their lines.

Share damage? I don't think so!

Note that my toonmates are normally much better then me in the damage departement; I just lucked out with the enemy team & my over-aggressive play in a toptier armored tank.

In games like that where one person hogs a high damage amount, it doesn't mean you got a bad team, but rather that one or a select few maximized the usage of your & red team deployment making the rest look bad.

Note that the lower tier you play, the more chance you'll meet that one player (or small group of players) that hog all the damage by their play, leaving very little for others.

yet they don't.

WG don't have a reason to single you and 14 others out in a game of 100k+ people at peak times and say "you know what, those people can lose this match. we don't like one of them personally so they can rot"

why would they? they gain nothing. angry customers dont buy things unless they're stupid beyond belief so annoying your playerbase doesnt roll in the money.....

the fact is, you still won that game, and yet your team had some people who didn't manage any damage. that said, damage alone doesn't win a game if all you do is sit in the corner, so, for all we know, some of those 0 damage guys *did* contribute to the win, either by being pin cushions, or just acting as a spotter.

so, which team was "clearly weaker" on your screenshot? the enemy had many who did something, but you had 1 guy and the rest were rubbish. if anything, you proved that 1 player is capable of influencing a win on their own, and more to the point, that someone's personal contribution is what wins games. The exact opposite of what you seem to be trying to claim. :amazed:

Aye, but IMO It's more of a common thing in lower tiers as there are generally less experienced players in most games, and a sealclubber in a decked out tank is a significant game changer compared to higher tiers where even with a huge player skill advantage, tanks have more viewrange, health, alpha and so on making it somewhat harder for a single experienced player to hard carry (but not impossible of course).

Are bots programmed to say "gl&hf" at the start of battle by any chance?

They don't. If it was the same team on a different map. It might have turned out differently too. It only takes one small mistake for the rest of the map to collapse and the rest to fail badly.

And... not everyone is as good as you, or on or above your level. The sooner you accept that. The less you care. The more fun you have.

Well if this is unfortunately how it's gonna be, I'm gonna close the thread and point you to the Matchmaker discussion thread. I only hope you can find the answers you would rather get there.
