An article just popped up on TAP, I skipped reading it at first because all it seems to be about is skins for tanks I don't have. But it casually mentions that the Battle Pass was removed from the upcoming patch 1.8.

https://thearmoredpatrol.com/2020/02/29/wot-1-8-new-3d-styles-available-in-game/

Pretty bummed, as 1.8 is reduced to a rework of the rewards for merit and an update to session stats. Yay. It'd be nice to get some information about this from an official source, but I guess WG will just quietly release 1.8 without it. A shame, really, because this was one of the few things in the last couple patches I was excited about.

Edit: full patchnotes can be found here: https://thearmoredpatrol.com/2020/03/02/update-1-8-launch-patchnotes/

I hated that merit rework. It was a nerf. I think the one we have right now works pretty well. We don't need another grind system for merits.

Why Battle Pass though. I saw an advertisement the other day for a different game and it was about the introduction of Battle Pass. Have there recently been a video game monetization conference and the first thing the representatives said when they came back to their respective company was "Battle Pass!"?

It only says it's not ready for patch day. It did not say it was not ready for 1.8 at all. Just that it's moved to a later date. How much later remains to be seen.

"The first season of Battle Pass will not launch when the 1.8 update arrives."

Pretty sure that means it's not part of 1.8 anymore.

Wasn't that the main thing of the patch?

Not sure why they are bothering with all these low content patches, we aren't getting any fixes, we haven't had any rebalances for like 18 months now because they said they were waiting for the ammo re-work, which has now been postponed and they aren't even releasing the one piece of new content they had on that patch, so what is the point?

I read on some site that it was not introduced due to a technical problem

It could be still part of the patch but to be activated at a later date.

Hm, looks interesting.

Anyone remembered Halloween event? They had the same "technical" issue.

Why they are running so fast towards update 2.0? Like seriously, is WG planning to release the ammo rework half worked?

Like, what would be upgraded/buffed in 1.8? It's more like a nurf to merit than buffing anything else or fixing an issue or any bug.

What's going on inside WG? Did they their heads to the wall or something? :D

And would the "tech tree rework" be released in 1.8?

Hah, WoT 2.0.

We might see patch 1.9 soon enough, but to 2.0 you will probably have about million 1.9.xxx patches.

Anybody noticed how better equipment is in the pay part of Battle pass. Wonder how that will progress...

Because other companies do it so WG has to do it as well. It's just basic gaming industry greed, like loot boxes etc. Never satisfied simply with money but on with all the money in the world.

Same reason we have two different premium accounts nowadays instead of them just adding the bonuses to the existing account. Double dipping, triple dipping, quadruple dipping when possible.

I'm confused now.

Sometimes WG wants us to pay to skip grinding. Sometimes they want us to pay to get more grinding.

???

Ok so 1.8 is basically updated Frontlines, updated Ranked and changed rewards for merit, plus some small changes to session statistics.

Pretty irrelevant patch.

It's incrementing the version number just for the sake of it, so "progress" is assumed.
In reality nothing happens, where are the detailed release notes? No ammo rebalance, no vehicle rebalance, no new content, just a brand new version number. Yay!

These are the patchnotes... This patch looks more like 1.7.2 than 1.8. At this point I suspect the only reason WG keeps releasing this contentless micropatches all the time is to annoy mod creators and users.
