Hullo there! I have a bit of a question here, and it is about one of my keepers at tier IX, the centurion 7/1

As a bit of a story, this was one of the tanks I've always wanted since I entered the game (the others being the T30, conqueror, deathstar and the original russian TD line) I managed to grind though the stock modules, but was rather pleasant as the guns available actually do more than just scratching paint (though 230 alpha is a bit of a meme). Now that I finally have it and the crew is there to stay, I have a bit of a doubt about the equipment regarding the Tank itself.

first I'll put in spoilers my current setup

I'll post the pictures later, I'm having issues with imgur atm( whenever I post a link, the font colour becomes white and I can't change it)

Spoiler

Spoiler

The centurion 7/1 is one of the tanks that has a base view range of 410 metres, which means that with a crew that has vents, BiA, sit awareness and recon can pass the 445m spotting threshold. I currently have optics, which lets me go up to 487m, which can be useful when spotting things with camo, for some of those ocasions.

however, another reason to go for vents is that it improves the gun of the cent. As much as I like the tank, I will agree that the soft stats are very mediocre for the handling it has, and vents would probably help a little bit with the issue.

Sorry if the post looks a little bit disordered, but I'll try fixing it along the way!

As a side note, I'll also post some replays here, because I'd also like tips on the gameplay, never hurt anyone after all

I would go for optics. With that huge view range you can play as a scout too.

I used optics when 3 marking it, but prefer vents for more general use, it has bad soft stats and mediocre DPM so helping that is my preference, combined with food and BIA.

It's currently the tank that has my improved equipment and I even use the vents directive.

It's my comfy go to tank for when I'm not playing great or the teams have been bad.

Depends:

- If you use food instead of fire extinguisher + have crew w/ bia, recon and situational awareness: I'd go vents (you lose only ~15m view power)

- Else I'd go with optics

not that I'm going to ever 3 mark it(with effort I could two mark it, which I'd be happy with), but just for curiosity, how was the marking challenge with the tank?

Not that hard (in 3 marking relative terms), though you have no high pen premium round, but then I suppose no one else marking it does either.

Easier than say the Standard B IMO which has higher requirements and is probably less forgiving as the Cent 7/1 at least has some armour to leverage.

Also the improved equipment was added after the 3 marks, so I did it with optics, v-stab and rammer, food and a like a 6 skill crew. It's a tank I am very familiar with and as I said I find very comfy, so that will have an impact, but I'd reckon it's amongst some of the easier 3 marks on tier 9, I presume a lot of people play it badly.

no dilemma - vents on tanks like 7/1 and patton.

it was kind of a keeper for me as well, but i decided to sell it and never look back, just because of that abysmal dpm, with all those fast battles nowadays - just couldn't do enough, because of that.

nope, just because tanks like centurions and patton doesnt have enough concealment to do that.

Well, you don't necessarily need concealment if you have armour. You can play hulldown, using terrains to get close enough to enemies to spot them sticking out only the turret.

The right answer is optics AND vents. You can never have enough VR.

Nice tank tho. One of my favorites in the game.

You are not going to snapshot anything with that gun anyway. Having 500+ VR is always dank though.

There aren't many reasons for ditching vstabs, especially not if you're padding with food imo.

The eternal question!  I have this dilema on most tanks it really comes down to how you play the tank, I notice you have no camo skills so I'm assuming you play it closer to the enemy where vehicle handling and dpm may be more advantagous to how you play this particular tank.

Personally I normally sway over to having more view range, as it will help with assisted damage for xp+credit calcs and end game scenarios.  An exercise to do is keep a tally after the game of what piece of equipment may have benefited you more based on what happened, this may shed some light on the solution :)  or it might just leave you more confused than ever ...

Go vents, VR is overrated.
