Just a crazy idea. But could we have back the Platoon tier spread?

When platooning with friends I think the removal of different tiers in the squad was a bit too "harsh". How come you can't just make so that you can have tier 8+ in a platoon. Since the MM spread already allows for this. You would be limited to at "worst" being bottom tier as a player of a tier 8. But I don't really see that as an issue seeing how the MM works. Would be nice to sometimes play in a premium while your friend is grinding his tier 9 for example.

I agree, it would be great to have at least a margin of 1 tier between platoon members.

Nice so if someone wants to play a tier 10 tank he can platoon with a tier 9 tank so he always gets tier 9 matchmaking?

No, the tier 9 always gets tier 10 MM then obviously.

why not?

Tier 10 is restricted of course

In any other case it will be a 10-5 mm at least where the platoon is always low tier
if there is arty and/or LT involved, the platoon is guaranteed low tier in a 7-5-3 mm
(actually, if ever you play arty or LT at tier 10 -  it should be tier 10 only games)

Well, why not? :)

But it might cause a serious issues tho! Imagine a T7 that platoons with T6 to avoid T9 MM (considering T7 as one of the worse MMs...) and so on.

Well, you still have the MM of the highest tier even back then. So then the chances of getting into a pure tier X game as the only tier 8 is still there. So I would not say it was ideal, even with that MM. As if it went on the tier 8 MM, as the MM spread is already there as you said. Then the tier X's could do it to rig missions easier. As in always facing tier 8's to bounce on them.

Idea is stupid. If you want to help your friend grind his tier eight then play tier eight yourself.

There's other reasons to have multi-tier platoon. Like personal missions. Or just wanting to have a challenge. It could and should work in tiers 8+, but I don't believe they will ever do that, cause it will mess up the matchmaking.

T6 and T7 will make the best out of it. How?

  • If a T7 platoons with T6, the player won't meet T9 any more but T8, he'll only have -2 /+1 MM.
  • A T6 that'll platoon with a T5, he'll meet T7. And again, he'll he'll have -2/+1 MM.

And so on, T9 will have a longer queue and only T9 games or mostly against T10. And more full T8 matchups.

NO. It was useful on occasions but 99% the sub-50% er's ruined it.

I used it a few times as -1/-2 when the missions wanted me to kill X number of tanks x tier higher etc.

With the current template mm if you take a tier X and a tier VIII into battle then it has to give you tier VIII tanks on the other team, so you are rigging the matchmaker in favour of your tier X tank as they know they will not be in an all tier X battle.

With the old mm without templates if you took a tier VIII and tier X into a battle you took the risk that the entire enemy team would be tier X and those 12/13 random people you got paired with would get annoyed that you brought a toy tank to the fight.

So, no.  There is no win situation with mixed tier platoons.

It's not a fail platoon when you fit in the current mm spread. Besides, you can still platoon limited MM tanks with same tier non-limited ones. This is a real fail platoon in my book.

It is always the top tier MM they go after. That is why troll paltoons where so hated. T10 with T1 made it bad for everyone else in the team. But having a T10 in a T1 battle would be even worse.

Having +-0 platoons is the best thing and there is no reason what so ever to have a spread.

EDIT: The reason the spread was there at all was because back then Arty and lights could not go higher than to tier 8. But now they can so there is no need for a platoon spread.

Yeah this definitely wouldn't get exploited by troll platoons out to ruin games.

It could only work with Preferential Match Making tanks platooning with -1 tier tanks. Like a tier 8 PMM + a regular tier 7.

Anything else and you run into the +2 spread problem.

Of the course it will mess up the matchmaker. It is also a good way of ensuring your tier nine or ten tank always has tier eights to fight. This is why the idea is stupid, it has not been thought through.

I would welcome the return of mixed tier platoons and enjoyed the flexible choices it offered.

Sure if you look at it that way. Perhaps a +1 spread to platoons then. There isn't that huge of a difference between tier 8 and 9. Same with 9 and 10. Thing is that you wouldn't know how many on the other team platoons the with a mixed setup. So unless it would be someone trying to do personal mission I don't really see the "rigging" in at least going +1 spread. You are already penalized for platooning with friends since you can work together the MM favours a harsher game i.e being bottom tier most of the time.
