I'm really struggling to like playing panthers. I've got a good crew - 3 skills including BIA, camo, snap shot, smooth ride etc and on paper accuracy is great, pen is good etc but when I play it shots miss and bounce that I'm sure would hit and pen with other tanks and as soon as I shoot I'm spotted and die, even when I hang back. People rave about rate of fire and how great this tank is but I'm really struggling with it. My win rate is 40% in it when normally 53%. What am I missing?!

VK 30.02D is the real panther at the correct tier. Also, Pudel.
edit: I have never seen a person rave about how great ingame panther was.

With the Panther you must seek opportunities to exploit your DPM while keeping your distance, which I know is easier said than done. With the low alpha and poor armor the Panther has very little pushing power, so you should take a passive playstyle, be patient and let your allies and enemies do the mistakes and then exploit them. Go for tracking! Even though it takes 2 shots to detrack most opponents this one is excellent at keeping enemies permatracked. Never trade shots in brawls with your low alpha gun. I could never really make the Panther 2 work so I'll let someone else comment on that one.

"There are a bunch of Panters, and they all suc*s "

Earlier this year I played >250 battles combined in Panther and Panther/M10 for the two Chimera Top gun missions (which in the end I completed both with SkorpiG), and I must say that both felt reasonably solid. Obviously struggling when bottom tier, Panther against tier 9s, M10 sees just tier 8s but has also significant lower pen.

It's decent speed can get you quickly into trouble, that is rushing too far ahead early on and then facing multiple enemies with litte to no support. The gun is fairly accurate when fully aimed, but tank and turret movements add significant bloom which make it not a particular good snapshotter. You have good DPM, but that only really counts when you can plant multiple hits - overall it is not particularly good at trading around corners...

As has been said already, perma-tracking is where the real fun is - your reload is fast enough that against many enemies you can even go track-pen-track-pen, or keep two enemies perma-tracked at the same time.

Panther 2 on the other hand

No one raves about the Panthers. They have decent RoF and penetration but low damage. All on a huge, ungainly platform with little in the way of useful armour. This is not a good combination.

i doubt anyone makes that thing work its a t7 at tier 8 :hiding:

it can snipe somewhat with the 88 L100 but no real dpm and platform is even worse tier for tier compared to panther

I have found the "historical" Tier 6 Panthers (VK3002M, Pudel, Bretagne) very effective as the armour works quite well especially hull down and the gun is effective in mid tier games

I play them as snipers initially with mid/end game exploit capability

I've got no complaints with my VH 30.02M. Its a solid tier 6 medium, easily as good as the T-34-85 with an extra 120hp which is very useful. Armour also works with a bit of angling

My Tankrewards Panther M10 is also OK although at tier 7 you need to spam a bit of premium as its sees tier 8s a lot more. Its no worse than any other tier 7 medium, which are mostly underwhelming anyway, and it has a shed load of HP which makes it noticeably harder to kill. It also has the great advantage of preferential match making so it never sees tier 9s.

You mean VK 30.02M aka Manther.

No, you're right - I phrased that badly. I meant that ROF, pen and accuracy are cited as the tank's strengths (such as they are).

Not played Pudel but yes, I like VK30.02M and Bretagne; it's the higher tier ones that just seem like unless some big old damage pinata of a heavy lets you perma-track them out in the open, it's an awful lot of work for very little return.

The Panther II is the only Panther i like to play. In general they have very poor armour in game(a joke when you consider it was a beast in WW2) but its a russian game and they dont like to be reminded that the German tanks were better than theirs, hence why the King Tiger is a joke too. The tiger 1 is just about ok but only because of its gun, it too has paper armour. Just stay at a distance and snipe, its how you play the Panther. If anyone crys in chat ignore them.
