AMX 38 is the worst piece of crap I have ever played. Slow turret, gun that can't penetrate anything, max. speed 15km/h, can be easily killed by higher tier tanks and outmaneuvered by lower tiers... I think that everything else has been already mentioned.

turn whole tank, not only turret : )

I don't know what you are complaining about.
This tank is nearly invulnerable to tanks of its tier (got 2 steel walls in 10 matches) and the gun can penetrate everything and does decent damage.

And none of the tier 3 tanks, except tds can damage a kv and they all get oneshoted by it in return.

Afterall you need like 10 to 15 games to get rid of it even without premium.
So by the time you complained about it in the forum you are already half throug it  ;)

I just won a match with this thing, first and last thanks to the x3 xp boost currently in effect.
How? By occupying the last 3-4 enemy tanks (two of them were AMX 38's) on Prokhorovka.
55 hits taken, 60 or so dished out. No kills and lost 12 hitpoints.
I was laughing so hard I couldn't see to aim, not to mention that all the lead in the air made that impossible in the first place. There was a circle with 3 AMX standing nose to nose on the edge of our cap zone, each double-tracked and blasting for all they were worth. The other little guys just ran around trying to punch through my flank armor.
Every single system in the tank was damaged at one point, except for an engine fire...
As this carnival of delight was taking place, our surviving lights snuck up to the enemy cap and took it without resistance.
SILLIEST. MATCH. EVER!
Outcome: 1200 xp. Adios 38!

AMX38 is truly dire. The gun is worse than useless as all it does is attract the attention of tanks that kill you.

When I first got this tank, I thought it was really crap.

But then I found out why it was. That 47mm upgraded cannon was a really shit cannon - It had really terrible accuracy and its aiming time was ridiculous. So I changed to the 25mm speed cannon, and it turned out to be much better - Same penetration, but much better accuracy and aiming time. Well, damage is less, but with it's much improved RoF, it pretty much does more average damage than that crappy 47mm cannon.

So try out the 25mm cannon instead. You'll notice a big difference with it. And better enjoy it while you still can because the next tank (AMX 40) does not have it. And if you think the AMX 38 is bad, you'll probably cut your wrist over that abomination AMX 40.

I did really good with this tank, but AMX 40, damn, my worst tank ever!

This tank reminded me of the grind from T28 - KV & M3 Lee to Sherman... only a lot, lot worse. Can't wait to get rid of it, which is annoying as I love the French light/cavalry tanks RL.

Ello lads.

I just dont get it, why we dont get this turret ?

Posted Image

Yeah its a "steel wall" tank when u fight against tier 2-3, maybe some 4. But it also meets the "big guys" in some fights, and with its "massive" agility and a "gun", if it can be named a gun, its just a moving shell magnet with a useless sonic weapon only capable of scaring some birds with its sound ...

Maybe when the "Full" tech-tree arrives there will be some additional modules and guns to research for some of french vehicles ?

This tank is sooo crappy it's fun to play

Can't really hurt my enemys, but they can't pen me anyway with my heavy armour. And it's slow like a brick.. And the gun elevation is terrible...

Can't wait until I get the Lorrain

My problem with this tank is that it can only research guns that are lvl 1 and 2. For a tier 3 tank, I would atleast expect a gun that is also tier 3, like its medium counterpart has.

It's alright as a tiny heavy in lowtier games, but when you ARE lowtier....useless...a tank has three factors, firepower, protection, mobility. No firepower, no mobility, and no real protection either vs higher tanks.

So, suicide rush. No, wait, you won't do more than 24 downhill.

Suicide crawl it is then.

Edit: Looking at this 3 days later (pre AMX-40 then!) this was happy times! Take the AMX-38 problems, multiply it by a factor of 1.5 and there's your AMX-40.

SKIP THESE MONSTROSITIES WHERE POSSIBLE.

(but save your free xp for the AMX-40 mostly, that one is the worst)

It's a MM decision wether it is fun or not. I just raked in 780 xp without playing too well even, thats pretty much the same as I make with my SU-14 - wich is high tier arty. However when you are in the lower part of the match setup you're better off not expecting a lot of xp.

This is the worst tank I have ever played. It has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. The only reason I'm suffering through it is to reach the higher-tier lights, but I am almost wondering if this torture is worth it... seriously, what the hell were WG thinking? Do they even test these things or do they spend all their budget on vodka?

awesome tactic :D translation:
1. as top tier: do nothidg and let other win battle
2. as bottom/middle tier: do the same.....jupiiiii
ps: then reach amx40 and do the same....but it takes more time, of course

imo this tank is meant to be as TARGET: nice armor and nothing else....:P
Why do you think the markings on french tanks look like targets?  :D

This is a fun tank and a true killer as top tier in the right hands. The only major drawback is the cruel match-making. Why does it have to go up against tier 5's on a (very) regular basis? Lowering its match-making to tier 4 at most would make it a joy to play but that may not be necessary. Why not lower the chance of going up against t5 greatly? Or is that too difficult for WG's coders? I wouldn't mind waiting a little longer for the match-maker to put me in a proper match. I hope the upcoming feature (that was promised for 7.2 but never came!!) "Reworked algorithm of balancing tanks in teams in random battles. Implemented break of long series (more than 3 battles) of getting into battles with maximal tier for a tank." - will improve the situation but for a select few tanks (mostly french slow ones, amx40 and B1 for example) I'd tweak match-making further. You devs know that people hate these tanks and just skip them, making them somewhat rare in battles. There's a way to fix that so do it!

When it comes to battle tactics, one good way to use this tank in t4 or t5 matches, is to move up ahead of your team to a bunch of bushes (with camo net and binos) and camp there spotting enemies for your team. You're still a light so you'll get good xp from scouting that way. Of course don't shoot at anyone unless you're sure they're alone and easy targets, otherwise you'll blow your cover. But don't hesitate to shoot a low health high tier tank that has opened its flanks to you, take the shot(s) and enjoy the xp. Retreating afterwards may be difficult but if you wait a bit so you're camouflaged again, you can then attempt to relocate while (hopefully) hidden.

As it is, it's very difficult to enjoy playing this tank. My last 5 games have been tier 5 and you can guess how frustrating that gets.

I've found this to be the correct tactic when running French tanks at least at the low tiers up to tanks such as B1 and AMX 40. French tank can take a beating with their relatively heavier armor - They are the tanks which draw all fire while others help bash the enemy tanks.

And why does everyone say to use the 25 over the 47. they're both appaling. My young cousin has higher caliber (and substantially more dangerous) water guns

Victory!
Battle: Prokhorovka 16 iunie 2012 05:09:00
Vehicle: AMX 38
Experience received: 1.681
Credits received: 21.700
Battle Achievements: Mastery Badge: Ace Tanker, Defender, Top Gun

This is my best game with this tank ( 9 kills ), which can happen to anyone when youre top tier. When youre not, you can as well afk to watch tv, or exit battle and play some other tank. You will have no use in the battle anyway. This tank has no cannon , no speed , no huge view range, no armor ,nothing that can be usefull in a tier 4 or 5 battle.
