Hi.  This is question that came up to my mind after noticing weird behavior 2 updates ago.  I noticed, and never noticed that before, that sometimes tank can hit me, even though I can see only a tip of its turret.

So, I wonder where is exactly my point of view located on my tank. Is it maybe lower on my tank, so my turret is protruding above. Also, it is very weird to be hit by a tank who's gun is hidden behind a cover or a hill.

My bad is that I didn't saved replays when this happen, but this happens every so often so I may just make some videos.

Today it happened with me driving UDES 14 5

The gun (sight). So, yes, a tank can be hidden for you while he can see the top of your turret and hit it easily.

Gun sight, when playing in first person then.

Oh I will try to be more careful with words just to be sure you understand my isssue.

Tank is not hidden as, invisible. Tank is spotted and visible. But hidden behind cover like dirt, or hill. But my point is, tank is so much hidden behind the hill, or a cover, that I can only see a top of his turret. not his gun. But he can shoot me. Usually enemy tank would come over the hill, I would see his gun and he would shoot me, if I don't move.

But this is case where his gun is hidden. It feels as of tank is shooting through walls, or a ground. That's how it feels.

See. When you hide behind a hill. Your camera is lower down vs the top of your tank. As in the gun's viewpoint. Thus if your camera is under the hill. It won't mean anything over it is hidden. So people on the other side can still hit your top, even tho you can't see them until you drive more forward. Thus it's not the worst idea to change camera often. As 3rd person view will show if you are to far up or down.

OK so, when in sniper mode, what you see is actually through the barrel of gun. Meaning there is a lot of your tank above you and you can get hit there from an enemy, even though you can only see a tip of his turret.  This makes sense. Now I will have to prove it.

If it happens again, I will save replay and make a video. It would also be useful to have other information from game such as where other tank hit me.

Some tanks have it (wrongly) in what appears to be the driver's hatch or something, making you think you're hulldown while they can pen your lowerplate. The 60TP was like that when it came out.

Centre of aim circle is the centre of the barrel. A lot of tanks have big foreheads/cupolas that you can pen before they even get a shot on you.

Also all shells fly in a ballistic arc, especially the low velocity ones (derp guns and of course arty). So if you are just barely out of line of sight the flight path of a shell might just lob over the obstacle and hit you.

It actually is the gun and not the sight, right?

There are several tanks where the gun sight goes out the top the tank, not next to the gun.

Stug III/IV for example.

It's the gun. If it was the sight you'd be able to see the gun in sniper mode.

I dunno where the sight is located but my gunner sure does love to point it directly at the ground or up into the sky when I drive too close to a wall.
