Hello all,

According to SUPERDATA, and during a period that spending on PC games is breaking records, WoT is out of the top 10 PC games for the 1st time.

It is a pitty...

Best regards.

Good, and I hope their revenue drops even more. Not that it will change at all the way they treat their own game, of course.

Fantastic news. I suggest WG makes some savings and gets rid of those creatures who work in development (I'd like to call them 'people' but that would be an insult to people).

Considering it's turning 10 years old and TS always been kind of a niche game, I'm surprised it's only the first time.

Wouldn't take that report to seriously.

Can see Minecraft isn't on the list either.

Well I guess they don't really care that much.

Their player base is huge on different regions of the world, so the money is flowing in anyways.

In other news, things change and the world moves on.  To be surpassed is not necessarily a bad thing or a sign of failure.  Typically it is a sign of improvement, invention, changes in education, and personal tastes.

Can you explain the thinking that leads to people developing a game in a way you do not like being de-humanized?  Your own world view is far more concerning to me than any failure of development.   Your thinking ignores people simply going to work and doing the job they are paid to do.  A person building a map, working on the lighting engine, or developing a new tank is almost certainly working within a design brief that has multiple budgets applied to it (Time, cash, equipment, etc.).  Okay the bosses can have criticism aimed at them for not developing the game you want.  But then these people are not you, so big surprise.

Given most of society is either stuck at home or working from home, I'd not say these are normal times to draw many long term conclusions.

You can actually see the lockdown spike on the player numbers.

There are more people playing Tanks at the moment but if people are proportionately spending more money on other games I suppose it's not a surprise given the situation.

I’ve been told that they’ve been destroying their own game since 2011. Weirdly enough they still have hundreds of thousands of players so I’m not quite sure how that works.

Why is League of Legends still the number one? They don't have pay2win, earn their money mostly from skins, have frequent balancing updates and have a far superior matchmaker. I never had 10+ losses in a row in LoL.

Plus: They value their customers. I've got at least a dozen premium tanks in my garage with a value of hundreds of dollars that are all trash now.

From the article:

Lockdowns caused players to return to, and spend on, long-running online titles. Revenue for League of Legends hit the highest level for the game since February 2017. Player numbers for the game also hit an all-time high. Similarly, Grand Theft Auto V saw its highest monthly spending on in-game content ever during April. The title will also see a significant boost to its PC player numbers in May due to a free giveaway that caused the Epic Games Store to crash.

One would assume WoT would be part of the party, seems like people spent more of their money on other games.

WoT know quit well that most players want new TECHTREE tanks, not more rehashed events and Premium tanks. The anniversary celebration is pathetic, I assume most people would agree. Balance changes for TECHTREE tanks take ages, 2 years to balance E100 & IS-4? not to mention Tiger II and others... I think it's all about the grind, they got the numbers, who haven't grinded Obj277 and has IS-4/E100, why should they fix it? let the player grind/spend xp/gold to get the new Tank.

Oh bugger off all of the doom sayers.

LoL and its genre is part of a global phenomenon that has spawned thousands of similar games and MOBAs, and it is the first to make MOBAs popular, that's why it's popular, same as StarCraft or WarCraft will always be popular for being the first big RTS games of WoW for being the first huge MMORPG.

You dare say that WoT, a niche game about a very arcade but mechanics focused tank gameplay, could've ever challenged such industry giants? The simple fact something so niche even ever had a chance at top 10 is mind boggling.

No matter how you twist it, this game isn't "falling apart" or "destroying itself" and the Devs aren't "almost non humans" because it doesn't cater to your rubbish idea of balance.

Either way, even more so in these times. It's no easy task to stay on that list for that long vs games that are mostly new titles the last year when your 10. Barely beaten by COD, that is also free.

But... tbh as a game gets older, you kinda expect it. WOW did the same as it got older, fell out of that list several times until they did the "classic" move that has kept it there since. As after they drop out of it the first time, was also when they started not to share player numbers unless you were an investor. Now they do again. Just goes to show how vital that list is to others then just the people that play those games.
