Heyo :)

a quick little question about inscriptions.

what does ''Saar'' mean?

i've always thought from old movies and such that Saar was like Arabic or Persian nobleman and i do like Eastern culture during the time of Antic Rome.

so i have ''named'' my Panther the ''Saar's Horse.''

(The Emblem indicating the Horse)

but so far i've been unable to confirm if Saar actually means Nobleman or something similar. or is it just gibberish? a name?

I assumed it was named after the Saar, region in Germany.

Quite a historic area, and a very political one between the wars.

i look these things up first and if i dont get a solid answer alone i will ask for help. because i know there are people here in the forums that have far better understanding of gameplay, history and or languages than i have.

When i google up ''Saar'' i get:

a river in W Europe, rising in the Vosges Mountains and flowing north to the Moselle River in Germany. Length: 246 km (153 miles)

French name: Sarre

A seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) is a rate adjustment used for economic or business data, such as sales numbers or employment figures, that attempts to remove seasonal variations in the data

Saarland

a state of W Germany: formed in 1919; under League of Nations administration until 1935; occupied by France (1945–57); part of West Germany (1957–90): contains rich coal deposits and is a major industrial region. Capital: Saarbrücken. Pop: 1 060 000 (2003 est). Area: 2567 sq km (991 sq miles)

and only language it translates with is Estonia and it means: ''Island''

and in old Finnish films i've seen when talking about Arabic noble men, i've heard the use of the word. ''Sinä varastit Saarin Hevosen?'' and that means ''you stole the Saar's horse?''

and out of all these things i have no idea why they are linked to Tank inscriptions in world of tanks.

''Saar'' as a in noble man would make the most sense to me.

What part of it's an inscription for German tanks is so difficult to understand?

Hint: what Saar means in German is what makes most sense here. Ever heard of Okkham's razor?

from German to English ''Saar'' means ''Saar''   i dont know english nor german that well so i dont know if it actually means anything.

from German to Finnish ''Saar'' means ''Saar'' now in Finnish i can tell you that means nothing. but i have heard it being used in contexts with a Arabic noble man. ''Saar''

beyond that its just a meaningless Word, Like ''Naa'' it means nothing to everyone else but i use it because its my nickname.

Well, there's two rivers in Germany named the Saar, along with the region Saarland as mentioned above...

So my guess it refers to either of those.

well tbh i did not think about translating the Hindi Word for Saar... :hiding:

so i translated सार and got plenty of translations for it. abstract was one of them.

hindi is spoken in india and we have indien panzer, there for... the word Saar could also be hindi with also referencing to Saarland.

im kinda clad i made this thread. opens a hole new world for naming my panther.

Saar is a river in Germany in Saarland(state) and it goes through Saarbrücken(city).

Also after WWI Saargebiet was taken of Germans sovereign teritority and the Germans were forbidden to put any military personal in there. This was felt as a great humiliation.

Hitler brought in back into the Reich in 1935.

Therefore Saar has a meaning, since it is a river in a border region. It is about the long rivalry between German Reich and France.

You could argue that Saar is rather political and therefore I wonder why it is available as an inscription in game.

the relevance of the Saar is found in the versaille treaty.

leaving as much possible political mines aside, the saar region was created in that treaty and seperated from germany as a small seperate entity ( I think it was controlled by the League of nations).

It returned to germany in 1935 carried by a public vote won with 90% support.

I don't know where the name originally came from as the name for the region as such Saar is way older, but writing it onto your tank was possibly either a way to show your regional pride. (I am from that region and fight for germany, or possible showing off a middle finger to the french. my interpretation)

Saar is island in estonian language.

Somehow I don't think that will be the right meaning in this case.

you are corect, it refers to the Saarland which was given (sic?) to france after WW1
it was part of nazi germany since 35, part of france after WW2 again and joined federal germany in 1955
