Hi guys,

Just wandering on the pros and cons of both options here. I personally run the server side reticle but played without for a long time and not really sure what the benefits and drawbacks are for each tbh so maybe you leaned gentlemen can give me a bit of insight into it. If the server reticle is better than why even the option etc?

Thanks.

I used to play without server reticle for a long time. I switched 2 years ago or so, took a few days to get used to, but never went back. Especially against cupolas it works for me.

Server Reticle on - You see where the server has calculated your shot will land if you fire now.

Server Reticle off - Your shot will land behind your aimcircle (if moving it right, shot will veer left). Aimtime and aimcircle size may also be unsynchronized, meaning you might think you're fully-aimed but you're not, yet.

Keep it on. It shouldn't even be an option...

I'd love to see a video comparing and explaining this, does one exist by any chance? Surely some YouTuber did one?

The downside for me was it slowed my RoF because I had to keep adjusting as the reticle kept doing its impersonation of a dancing dervish.

Client reticle is smooth but bit ahead of what the server is actually calculating while server reticle is "jumpy" but correct.

I prefer client reticle. Much smoother to shoot tanks.

Circon uses a mod which shows both on the screen (blue is server reticle) https://youtu.be/d0NPpHXYBac

Having both visible at the same time should be an option in the client settings and not something you have to install a mod for.

(I can't stand the jumpiness of only having sever reticle and as I play mod free it's client reticle for me)

Client Reticule for me. I played with Server Reticule for a while but I find I do decently without it and I've never felt the need to turn it back on.

Server. As others have pointed out, it takes some getting used to due to the slight delay. I'm willing to bet as I have to wait a split second or two longer at times. I hit some shots more often then I should have with it off thinking the gun is on target earlier.

As there are several factors to consider. It won't be "equal" for all on how effective it is for any video to give a solid pointer I suspect. As if you have more delays etc then others. As in the gap on when the client snaps to a target, vs when the servers says you are on target. Have a bad day with spikes, the difference will be a fair bit.

But if you have low ping, no big delays. I suspect it won't make a massive difference overall in the long run for a video to show a noticeable comparison overall.

I am not using server rectangle, because there is no more use to.

A couple years ago the green light was constantly blinking red and the whole experience was just awful. Tanks sometimes shot in the opposite direction you were aiming at, depending on how unbearable the lag was.

Back then, you pritty much had to go for server rectangle, because else you would shoot massively wrong.

At the moment there is simply no point in using that laggy way to aim, if the difference is actually minimal. Regular rectangle works just as great.

Well, let me tell you that it was. The mod mentioned here the Circon is using is the actual old in game server reticle. Why wg changed it nobody knows. I use a similar one, and having both game reticle and server reticle at the same time will just how you how much of a difference it can make. I play on roughly 30-50 ping, which is quite good and the differences are quite big in reticles, especially when aiming from a vehicle with large bloom.

The in game now is just too jittery and difficult to get accustomed to, using both is the best option.

Lemming rush should use it, there you would see a world of difference since he plays at 120 ping. I've seen him land shots that were nowhere near where he was aiming.

I use elkano's version, it clones the in game one but in purple instead so not so jarring.

Ok so what I take from this is that basically the client reticle is smooth and nice to use but at times due to network issues etc your tanks gun isn't actually aiming where it appears on screen. Server reticle is the truest reflection of where your gun is actually aiming at any given and laggy moment BUT, it's pretty bouncy and not very smooth or all that nice(would be my experience with it at times, but now I understand why!).

Thanks. Oh and btw yes I agree, it would be nice to have the two overlapping into one aiming circle that only steps out when things get laggy or pingy etc, just so you don't shoot at claim "wow, where did that shell go, ghost shell! I go start a thread on the forum" lol.

Both, it's pretty much the only mod I use these days.
