Hi fellow tankers,

Based on undutchable80's amazing work:great: in his (her?) yearly poll as well as some tank comparisons I made, a question & a hypothesis arose. Therefore, I would like to know from you which tank you consider to be the best non-premium tank based on its battle performance :playing:  irrespective of its tier.

Here the hypothesis:

Could it be that a successor tank is almost the same in its values as its predecessor but rated much better because in the tier on tier comparison the competitor tanks of the successor are much worse :justwait:? An example to clarify what I mean (without mentioning the tanks where I observed this because I do not want to influence you):

- Tank ABC is at tier y and is rated (in undutchable80's poll) within its tier almost equal to 1 or 2 other tanks.
- Tank XYZ is the successor of tank ABC, so it is on tier y+1. Although it is on a higher tier it has basically the same values. However, on tier y+1 the other tanks are so bad that tank XYZ is clearly placed 1st in the poll - although compared to tank ABC you would have assumed it to be ranked somewhere midfield at most.

Details & rules of my poll :medal::

- I copied the best 0 to 2 tanks per tier of undutchable80's poll 2020 - yes, there are class-tier-combinations where I did not copy a single tank because they all were not rated very well.

- You have as maximum three answers per class (only two for SPG).

Yes I know, undutchable80's poll takes into account other values than purely performance. He / she explicitly asks for taking into account anything that is important / fun for you. However, I assume that most tankers used the tank performance as main factor.

I am interested in the poll results and particularly in your comments WHY you prefer one or the other !

Best

Torpsi

What would you class Matilda as then, on of the few tanks where my WR is green, got to love the Matilda:D

Given that there is no infantry tank class i would go with heavy. I mean it is essentially a churchill on tier 4.

But flanking and the usual "medium" movement is surely not its cup of tea. Great tank however, specially with the stingy needle gun.

OK, since even this poll seems to confirm the strange observation at least in one of the "tank-" (actually arty-) pairs, I will ask directly:

Why do you prefer the M53/M55 (US tier 9 arty) over the M40/M43 (US tier 8 arty)?

What do I oversee? I guess we all agree that the gun is all what matters to an arty. The guns are basically the same, in particular with respect to pen and damage. The tier 9 has 10% more DPM, that's it. The rest should be negligible, correct? So why is the tier 9 in your perspective so much better than the tier 8, particularly taking into account that it has to fight better armored tanks?

Not having played either of them yet, I am guessing the ability to mount vents and the tier-spread it encounters are additional benefits to the M53/M55...

Ah, very interesting observation. Could anyone who prefers the tier 9 arty confirm that this is the main reason for you?

Tier spread, more mobile, two good guns (stock for stun & top gun for dmg) with good RoF makes me prefer the M53/55 over the M40/43. Especially as I am trying to do Obj.260 & Chimera Personal Missions so I need those Tier 9/10 games.

Hey guys,

I slightly changed the headline of this topic because I am extremely interested in the battlefield performance. And I opened a new post to specifically discuss pairs of tanks where the lower tier tank is almost equal to the successor and where you would prefer the lower tier because of its better MM.

The arty is for me only of interest because of the campaign missions. But exactly because of them I wondered if I should go for the US tier 9 arty or if the tier 8 is sufficient.

With 44 votes so far I summarize the results. In case there is a significant difference due to new votes I will update the results table.

I am glad to hear your thoughts and comments on this.

You best upload it to whatever photo hosting page you prefer, like imgur for example and just link the image instead of attaching it.

My first thought as well - gay now means 'rubbish' or equivalent thereof.

However, he did say 'you are gay' :girl:

Still preferred it when they at least used the word f**got, it had a better ring to it.
