Have i missed something?

finished with P.43 bis so sold the tank and moved the crew into the P.43 Ter. I retrained the crew using silver:

but noticed this:

So i thought this was weird and i tried it on a random tanker (moved a 100% commander from 140 to the 430) and indeed he went down to 90%.

So what am i missing? Solved #6 below, you learn something new everyday

Did you have perks/skills unassigned prior to switching?

nope, as you can see they are midway through their 5th skill

I've noticed the same when retraining crews with several skills. Always thought it happens because later skills take so much xp to progress. So in your case Captain Dentino has already gathered a lot of xp on his way from 94% firefighting to 95. This xp is then spent on the main skill when retraining. Serzhant Brichkin on the otherhand is a 0 skill scrub with on xp in store.

Thanks man i suspected this is the answer. Just to be sure i tried another random crew member and he had 94% 2nd skill with 5k needed to 95%. I retrained him and he "only" dropped down to 92% rather than 90%.

Spoiler

Is this something new?

That is correct. The xp that have not yet been used to gain a whole percent of a skill is treated as unallocated and is used when retraining.

It's a pretty backwards way of doing things but it's always been like that afaik. A normal game would let skills be trained to decimals of percentage and just truncate what it shows in the client.
