I've been trying to start up the French tracked lights, but the AMX 40 is blocking me like crazy. People say the armor is amazing, but I get uptiered to tier 5 all the time, the gun's only saving grace is the decent-ish alpha, and it's as slow as a whale. If my team is winning, I desperately chase them around the map at 18-20km/h in hopes of getting to shoot something before the game ends. Even if I do get to shoot at something, I miss because of the god awful dispersion and then the enemy tank gets killed before I finish reloading. I just deal 0 damage and drive around aimlessly, only for the battle to end by time I arrive.. I really need advice on how to handle this garbage container on tracks, honestly. All I want to do is to experience the amazing French lights, not to drive this garbage container around for ages, getting 200-300XP per game because I can't get to shoot a tank.

Simple. It is called Free XP. Or you can just play one x2/3 win a day to shorten the grind in terms of battles. I actually did OK for WR first time around. I bought it back and played to 50 battles with 35 wins. I bounced a point-blank shot from a Hellcat and killed it in turn in one battle on Fjords. A great moment.

I feel a sudden urge to rebuy the duck and play it.

That said, yes, due to the speed, gun and armor combination, it is a horrible tank to play for anyone new or with limited experience. Even with a good crew, equipment and a skilled player at the controls, it never becomes better than a half-decent bully as top tier and utter crap when not top tier.

Simple answer? No. Frankly as bad as some low tier tanks can be, they are always atleast easy and relatively quickly to grind through. It is the terrible tanks at higher tiers that are really bad, since you have to suffer 2/3 Times as long, just to grind some of the modules.

It should have limited MM like the other tier IV de facto heavies, the B1 and DW2. It's a fun tank as long as you're not in a tier VI match, as even a fair few Tier V guns will struggle do deal with you, especially due to the generally poor gun handling at that tier.

Nope, M3 Lee is the worst.

M3 Lee is actually a really good gun attached to large but surprisingly mobile barn.

Apart from a low profile and the ability to not expose all its weak parts to shoot something, it has everything the duck lacks.

I spent all my Free XP on idiotic stuff a few months ago, so now I have less than 1k of it. And I'd rather save my premium 3x boosts on the ELC AMX bis stock grind.. :|

I really can't. I always get uptiered to tier 5 where I get penned by almost anything, and matches always end before I even get to shoot at something because this thing travels at 18km/h.

1) Don't chase your team, you won't catch them.

Put yourself in a position (preferably at elevation) where you can act as a late game spotter / flank support.

If your team steamrolls the enemy you will have games where you contribute very little, but if you choose your placement with care then you will be a key element in making sure your team doesn't get steamrolled.

2) Don't play it as a light, heavy or TD, play it as the Duck that it is.
- waddle somewhere interesting
- quack when you see something interesting
- flap your wings and fly away (downhill) when in danger
- annoy the enemy when they are distracted by other things

3) Don't expect to carry, support the tanks you think can do the carrying

4) For fun, don't be afraid to try playing it as a heavy when playing vs same tier or lower

It's far from the worst tank in the game and can be a lot of fun. The main problem is it's placement in the French light tank line, when it's nothing like the other tanks in the line.

Yeah, I might just park up somewhere and not even bother moving, in hopes of spotting something.

Well, seeing as the Duck is slow to move, except downhill, you are indeed better of choosing an area of the map to move to.

I never said you had to be an immobile blob.

- If you choose a place at a crossroads you can shift between sides in order to keep both lanes covered

- If at elevation keep an eye on as much of an area as possible

- etc

If you've made up your mind not to like the tank, don't want to try to adapt to it's limitations and just want to moan about the things it can't do then my recommendation is to stop grinding the line, focus on a line more to your liking while earning free experience and come back to the French line once you can skip it.

Is it a tank for everyone? Definately not.

Keep in mind, no one is threatening to destroy your PC if you don't grind the Duck and WG isnt going to reward you with all current and future reward tanks just because you do.

I'll give that a try, then. what's your problem man? And no worries, I want fast zippy autoloader tanks, it's that the AMX 40 is nothing like it. I'm sure I'll enjoy the tier 5 and up as my light tank learners :D

Remember to put binos in it, as you are slow and stay stationary quite much, binos do come handy.

It still has 50km/h speedlimit, platoon with a friend who has a fast tank and ask him to push you around.

No problem and no worries.   They were suggestions only, especially since this game always makes it necessary to be flexible.

The AMX 40 is certainly a shock when expecting a fast zippy autoloader, that's certain.

Which used to be even more satisfying as the difference between the AMX 40 and AMX ELC was like the difference between night and day.

Now the difference is more like between 10AM and 2PM.

(sigh)

AMX40 is quite tragic, but they get much better once you get thru.
