For the last few days I noticed that once in a while shells might just vanish, never hitting the target, or anything near it, nor showing a tracer that would enable you to see where the shot goes - they just vanish immediately after you take the shot and fail to hit even clear shots like an enemy tank 50 m away fully aimed in. It happened to me with all kinds of guns, from derpy 152 mm on ISU-152 over not-so-derpy 122's on SU-101 and fairly accurate guns like 105 mm on the Char Futur 4 or the Bourrasque

It does not happen in every game, but every so often it does happen and then it might happen twice in a row within the same battle.

Did anyone else experience this ? Is this a known issue, and are there things one can do to fix it ?

Edit: I was logged in to EU2 last time I observed this today.

Edit: Thanks for the replies so far. The game client shows 59 fps and 20-30 ms connection, no indication of packet loss. Also I don't think it's a visual bug, the tanks I miss keep moving and shooting which they probably wouldn't if the server had determined that they are "dead".

Bad connection and packet loss?

Can be caused by two things. The past few weeks there have been a few topics about nothing happening visually on their client when firing. It was caused by a mod creating a visual conflict on their client. The shell hit the target etc on the server and for other clients just fine. So if you do run any mods... try without it and see.

Second cause can be net issue. The game is sever run. You firing has to go to the server and back again with info on the shell path and where it hit. So any hiccup between you and the server can cause data to be delayed to name one. Thus the shell might not do anything as the impact info was not received. Or if there is a dealy it might "vanish" into the target, and the splash is way to the side etc.

You can do a simple ping plotter trace when playing and check the data when it occurs to see if there was any data loss or spikes recorded. And if it's on your end, you can try and fix it. If not. Not much you can do about it tbh.

Don't thank them for their replies and then ignore their advice. Do what Balc0ra said about using pingplotter to check your connection next time you have this issue (or even just when playing so that you can check immediately it happens). There are instructions for doing so on the WoT support pages: https://eu.wargaming.net/support/en/products/wot/category/25185/#category_25798

OP you were Stealth Nerfed in the last patch , now due to RNG your shells have a -25%/+25% chance of vanishing into thin air like the rest of the game

Few things to keep in mind. The mod issue was caused due to a local conflict on the client files. Nothing to do with the server determining if the target is dead or not. As in the client got the info from the server, it just did not display the shots on his tank at all.

And the ping in the game is only to the login server, and the light only covers part of the data too. If there is a spike on a different section that does damage shell calculations causing info to be lost so you won't' see the shell either. That won't show there as well vs a plotter trace that has all your data going in and out via that client.

ghost shells happen sometimes, but I have a feeling that when I am trying to perfectly lead and shoot on moving EBR rabbits, I get ghost shells much more often.. and I am starting to think that WG servers cant even handle that edit thats the reason. Or dunno if thats the ghost shells or hows its called but I hit EBR, shells goes clearly through it, but actually it doesnt. WG ye, we make 100km/h tank our servers cant even handle.

Same problem happens for me since the update, mainly for enemy arty tracers. When playing arty (shame on me blabla I know), I look for enemy arty tracers in order to counter-arty. Nothing in game, but plenty on replay. Also when playing tanks, I see sometimes people getting damage and stun but without any tracer nor explosion.

I've also run a test with a mate in a traning room, both as arty. He could see me shots but I could not - once again, I could see them in the replay.

I wonder why they made the inner aiming circle and introduced aim time…. certain shells are obviously hitting far - far - far outside the aiming circle.

BTW: I just killed a vehicle 15 meter from the vehicle I was aiming at..... distance was about 200 meter.....

Did they nerf the accuracy ? The spread should be 0.39 in 100 meter..... How could i hit something 15 meter from where I was aiming ?

And yes, I was fully aimed...

Both those instances can only be explained by bad connection to the server, and the server registering other things than what your client makes of it plugging the holes.

If it's not your internet itself (other stuff downloading, housemates streaming, issues with the router, etc....), then it's somewhere along the route to the server.

Or as we see so often, players being mistaken.

Without a replay we can't do anything but guess and that's mine.

It's just a computer game and we can't expect WG to put in the effort to get all the dynamics correct...

The vehicle is drving forwards, backwards and turning... can we expect more ?

Perhaps this issue is more visible on TDs where you snipe from long range and are depending on a accurate gun. But seriously, I have seen some weird stuff today.

was watching Skill and Mailand platooning a while back and both complained of the same issue at the same time, so if two streamers in two homes can get the issue at the same time in battle suggests weird
