so another post has pointed us towards Raging Raptors video and Empires Border, However I was more interested in Ruinberg and the multiple changes being tried and thought a few ideas might be worth throwing out for discussion

1  window, just remove it, its BS and never added anything intelligent to the game, this 1 change balances the map so much better its a no brainer.

2 for an even better game experience just go back to the 9.17 version of the map

3  i quite like the small size increase proposed with this proviso, it add hugely to the camping area at the back of the map and will worsen the gameplay as a result encouraging players to 'NOT' play the game, any size increase is welcome on any map, but it has to be for both teams and promote better gameplay not ever more redline camping disaster maps

4  for a really bold change how about this, the main buildings clearly have internal courtyard areas, the slightly lighter greyed out sections, why not open them all up so the whole of the map can be playable, allowing lots of areas to move around, flank, sidescrape, BE ARTY SAFE !!!!!, and truly make the map unique

Have you actually checked those areas from above?

Yeh they seemed to have made loads of changes in the field for the north team, just to counter that window better, clearly recognising its a big problem, yet the most obvious solution is to just remove it. It never used to be there and it was never needed.

Spending loads of development time trying to correct a mistake they made in the firs place.

Also the wording is odd on the news item -

Block Quote

Loopholes in the walls were closed. One "balcony" remains.

Does this mean that window position has less places to shoot out from?

yes, 1st 2 windows blocked up, third still there, and in field an extra house and mound for the field team to camp behind

usual [edited], just remove the window and problem solved

So they have nerfed the position, added spots to counter the position, and move the whole map forward to counter the position.

When they could have just removed the silly spot they added.  Weird logic they way WG work.

The window never needed to be there, the north team had more advantages in middle, but they added hull down spots in the village to counter that and south has better spots in the city, then pretty much the map is fine.

Instead they added that silly window, which unbalanced the map and are now having to make lots of chances to balance that window out, instead of just getting rid of it.

I am more interested in how they made the map bigger so easily, seems they could do it with others too, which would be great.

The spaces they added on Ruinberg, not sure how good they will be gameplay wise, but it is a start to bigger maps, and in my opinion we need those.

How short are people's memories... Prior to that window being placed there N team had ~70% WR.

so the answer is to give the south spawn a 70%wr?

or make a change that is totally stupid?

perfect example of WGs inability to take an intelligent approach to their game design

It was never anywhere near that level. When VBaddict worked, the most unbalanced map was Sand River Assault which had a 65% win rate for the defending team. Other maps were are pretty much in the 50% region, so at worst it would have been 55%, and probably not even that high.

And the rubble they added in the village for south team easily combats the middle. That alone was enough to balance the map, north has nothing like it on the other side and the windows just get to farm people who have no cover and are instantly in a cross fire, which is not what happens when north gets middle.
