So this tank used to be tier 5, and it did okay there for the brief amount of time I played it on my other account.

With the tech tree rework they moved it up to tier 6.

At one tier up it has much worse armor than the KV-1, the same gun with better pen and accuracy but worse gun depression.

Cannot really go in the front unless -2mm, too slow to reach positions to be played as a medium, and the gun depression makes sniping awkward. So it plays like a fatter, slower and more awkward T34/85 (with a worse turret) that steals a HT position in MM.

Not trying to whine too much here as I realize it's not the worst tank to have to grind through compared to a lot of stuff, but it just seems so out of place as the tier 6 after KV-1 in stead of the KV-85.

Just use it with derp gun as a sub tier fun tank. But i agree with you. It should have been on the collectors list instead of kv85. But you know how it goes, since collector tanks are not getting discounts why not to put popular low tier tanks on there and milk xp and module frustration from newer players ? :bajan:

I hadn't noticed that WG had shoved it up to Tier 6 but I agree at that level it is pointless

The point of your T6 KV-1S is to be target practice and a HP pinata for my Skorp and SU 130 PM when I'm grinding credits. No other reason.

At tier 5, it was fun, tier 6, rather pointless.

The KV-1S used be one of my Favs, I loved playing it with the Derp Gun,

cheap ammo and a lot of destruction ! I could take out a tank with 2 to 3 shots max !

But ever since the Tech Tree changed and more hit points were added to every vehicle,

it started to give me the feeling that it was nurfed, and in a way it was, from TIER 5 to TIER 6.

Now as you correctly put it, it is an awkward moving tank,

faster than the KV-1 but with less armor and no gun depression.

I don't play it that much anymore, since it's not that effective on the battlefield.

It is a shame, vehicles that we enjoy being castrated like that.

Sorry for my language, but that is the feeling it gives me now.

I'm amazed they uptiered the KV-1S when the KV-85 was broadly fine, it looks utter trash now. I'd go without the 85mm gun and use the 122mm, it has a pretty nasty 370 alpha 150 pen HEAT shell and with the HE you'll be dealing more damage than the 85mm anyway and somewhat more useful in bottom tier games.

this, I don’t play it too often but when I do it’s derp and HE , on a mobile platform (for HT) with Rasha gun handling - so you can still be a pain to tungsten in his skorp g :playing:

Disagree on the derp gun, the 85MM on the KV-1S is one of its few redeeming features. DPM is pretty alright, accuracy and handling (apart from depression) can almost pass as good, and 150/200 pen which isn't bad at all. Dislike derp guns, they are too situational and inconsistent for me... of course unless if it's a KV-2 400m away aiming at me hitting a pixel shot that also penetrates.

I'm so glad I played through it when it was tier 5 it must be brutal playing it at tier 6. KV-85 should have been the tech tree tank at tier 6. With the 100mm gun it's quite effective at tier 6 once you learn to work round the poor gun depression.

You should understand what the S in its name stands for.
Suffering.

Back in the days it was op as hell having tier 4/5 tanks suffer nightmares of getting oneshot by a sportscar with 122mm.

Nowadays you suffer playing it as a faster tier 5 kv1 with garbage gun depression but a tier higher.
You either learn to take pleasure from suffering or you better sell it/free xp it.

They should have made the kv85 the tier 6 and the 1s a tier 5 collectors tank.

Do you by any chance sit on a metal spiked chair and chew glass while playing it?

As you remember, from beggining kv1s was tier 6 best heavy tank with d-t-25 gun, 122mm. And after helcat neft, kv1s was tank that put fear in 6 tier. Now wg put kv1s to 6 tier again. Welcome back our beloved kv1s

It's not in a good place is it, low alpha so you need to expose longer to damage but you also have long aim time and short view range to work around.  Really needs some turret armour buffs or some bettergun characteristics. Plannins to save up blueprints, free xp on the alt while playing the T-150 instead.

I wondered about the same things regarding the KV-1S. How can it be at tier 6 HT, when it's basically a marginally improved KV-1 in some areas but straight up worse than it in many others?

After playing with it for a while (with a bad crew and not fully researched yet), I'm beggining to enjoy it somewhat. I like the extra mobility and the 85mm is ok, even if only slightly better than its T5 counterpart. I can't play it like the KV-1 but it's ok. I feel it's closer to a MT than a HT and I'm thinking that I'll like the medium playstyle quite a bit if it resembles the KV-1S playstyle in any way. I'm now looking forward to unlocking the T-34 line.

Mind you, it's only my second T6 tank after the KV-2, which, let's just say, is.. different. I have no clue how other T6 tanks play..

Considering the responses so far, I assume no one would advise staying on the KV-1S for too long right?
