I've had the occasional run in with soapy rocks, causing me to take a dive from a higher position or while trying to stay in cover close to a crest, but this one was a bit extreme in the distance and time it went on....

It's because you kept trying to brake / go forward.

When braking, by pressing either W or S, when you're moving backwards or forwards respectively, your tracks lock up. You cannot change the direction of their movement while doing so.

The solution is to keep moving in the direction you're travelling in, you will regain control of your tank (turning it) by doing so.

This is also the reason why, when facehugging, one tank will be able to keep pushing the other tank back (assuming of course, they are the same tank - weight, power), because that other tank cannot engage a forward gear, since the game thinks it's trying to brake, rather than push forward as well.

It can be game-breaking in some scenarios...I wonder why it hasn't been fixed in these last 10 years.

I don't care much. As long as they don't fix stupid-a*s sh*t like this, I'm not paying anything.

Yes, I know, but the distance and duration were exceptional for me, with locked-up tracks. I know Bourat is light, but those last 7 seconds of gliding over near zero inclination is a bit over the top. A bit more friction would be sensible.

Nice hijack into wheeled rant.

Question though, at what time was that battle and was the server population under 10000?

And one I can share from yesterday where MM gave us lemons:

I have above 1,000 games in EBR 105.

I don't know if you've noticed, there is like 16 light tanks in this battle.

I know, I know, but flag of our great leader didn't want to show up anymore, so I tried the one of our favourite shipping companies. That one shows up, so not sure what the problem is with the KP one.

Secondly:

15-1 win against decent Object 279(e) platoon vs our top three heavies. MM gives variation.

Thirdly:

Hence my question about time and server population. As far as I know LTs have a soft cap of 6, meaning you only get more if there simply isn't enough people in the pool for the soft cap, but still more than enough in the tier to make a battle fast.

What you said first, derailed the thread. Now you're surprised?

I just made fun of Wargaming incompetence by providing a screenshot with 16 light tanks in one battle and you jumped on me like I'm trying to rant about EBR. What is wrong with you?

We were talking about soap rock/sliding physics.

But you:

Completely unrelated to the thread topic.

What's not to understand?

That area C6 and D6 on Malinovka is filled with lots of soapy rock areas, not just the rocks but some areas of the grass too, at least when you get caught by them you often slide out of enemy fire.

On one of the recent WG streams they talked about trying to 'fix' the issue, but said it was a lot more complex than appears, something to do with two aspects of the game engine and how they interact:mellow:

When was the last time you played?

The server hasnt been over 100,000 for weeks.

And about "soap rocks" WG cant fix it as its a HAVOC issue. Who already have their money and have gone.

90% of under 100000 isn't under 10000.

Yeah, I guess with the engine it's a trade off between being able to climb everything and soapy rocks. Still, on sections like that one there, you can probably add some patches with more grip. That slide would have been fine until second 6. Seconds 6 to 14 are plain silly.

If you are sure it was soap, then OK.

But if it was lube, we have a local suspect to look for in The Dingers recruitment thread...

A small hint - you can personally look for him in his basement.

He does greasing regularly...
