Hello,

I am in the process of making my South African Tech tree and wondering would you object to more 1990s tanks in the game?

Currently the M41D is a 1990s upgrade to the bulldog so there really isn't a time scale barrier now but more of a technology barrier of smoothbore, reactive armour etc

Would you like to see more tanks from the 1970s-1990s as long as they fit the technology specs?

As long as the tank is balanced and fits with the current gameplay, it's fine.

You can put them at tier 11.

People will be allowed to look, but not touch.

Seriously though, if they are not OPd and dont introduce new gimmicks then they'd be fine.

Well as long as there's no composite armor and smooth bore guns they most likely can be somewhat balanced.

I would like a timberwolf, mk1 or mk2, i don't think 3062 is to much of a stretch.

This ... it could be a 'natural' way to progress into more modern tanks ...

Going by WG's track record it wouldn't make any difference if everyone did.

if they truly wanted to, they could rival AW and make T11-20 with modern tanks, and smoothbore guns*. they could make smoothbores up at T16 or something and have T10-12 fight too. that said, id go with the former were i WG given i think the maps we currently have would be a bit small for a merkava.... probably better to "limit" them to grand battle maps

*they could make them separate so you wont get a Maus vs T12 tanks. it might even mean they would have more tanks to include and make into premiums without making yet more T8's!

Yes I would object.

I believe WG to be correct with their rough time limit.

If you want modern go to that failure AW.

1970 seems to be about the limit. Any further past that and tanks start using ERA, composite armour and you shift into MBTs.

None of the above apply to Wheelies, didn't apply to Obj 268v4, Obj 279(e) why does it matter?

source on that? I couldn't find any reference to it being made in the 1990s.

edit: apparently 1996 and it could fire APFSDS   https://www.flickr.com/photos/112917445@N04/39212039411

I guess it's because it's an upgrade to an already existing tank from a much earlier period (early 1950s), the tank is pretty much the same in game but they just changed the ammo to AP. Hardly modern tbh. The 'upgrade' was pretty negligible. It's not like they added composite/ERA armour plates, just some sideskirts and a better engine.

why always up? why not down?

we are still missing the Mark 1 tank.

we have the FT-17 so we should have the Mark 1 tank as well.

Is it a bad time to mention that most of their armory is wheeled tanks? And that they have wheeled arty that can go 120?

yes that is correct, im looking in my south African tree The early Olifnts which were upgrades to the centurion maybe in the 1980s and 199o respectively, but the are in line with the game maniacs

Probably because the Mark IV is huge compared to the FT. The FT is like 7 tons and the Mark IV is 32 tons. The Mark IV did show up in the WW1 commemoration game mode though.

You should present the full tech tree then and then we can assess if it fits or not.
