AMX 50 100

3Form's Photo 3Form 28 Jul 2012

Just got this, had the top engine and the DCA 45 already, researched the tracks and the tank is amazing! Can't wait for the 100mm!

Great in a platoon, not sure how it'll be solo though :S

Solo it's very random. If your team is above average you will be fine as long as you know your place on the battlefield. As for the 100mm gun, I found it the worse gun, moneymaking whise. Even with a very good game ( wich assume you will unload 4-5 clips ) and premium you barely can make 5k profit. The real change on the french heavys comes once you get the 50-120 with the 120mm gun.

The thing has absolutely horrible gun depression and elevation, and serious problems with dinging. Yeah, "You retain the 212 penetration from the AMX M4". Don't think so, buster.

Other than that, I can only report that either I have some serious problems with keeping myself out of view, or this thing attracts fire like a white man with a briefcase walking through the projects.

lol, true
It all depends on your teamates.

I keep playing with the 90mm gun, shooting with the topgun is too big a drain on my finances. 90mm is still profitable.

Guys, question.

This tank is obviously a second line tank. How do you make this tank work in absence of a clear first line (or a first line at all, you know... campers)?

I tried using it as a medium tank with a big gun. I have plenty of xp as a med, and this tank can give you the empression of one, but my winrates say I'm mistaken. The slower acc might do me in here.

Haven't seen that many 100's lately, but would appreciate the advice.

The tanks tracks need their health increased drastically. Tracks are supposed to eat shots well mines doesn't.

The mobility of this tank has been hugely nerfed since 7.5

Now is a true heavy, with the armor of a light

Tbh I do not like this tank that much atm although I've won most battles in it.. Playing alone you are way to vunerable because of the rediculous long reload time of the magazine.. And the 6 shots magazine is nice, but if half of them bounce or do 0 damage the only advantage the tank has is completly lost.. Plus you cannot go hull down in it as the turret is weak just like the rest of the armor and you have very poor gun depression.. All you have left is a relative fast tank with no real advantages over other tier VIII heavy tanks.. It only really works as a sniper for me, get in a position fast and snipe.. It's not really a heavy tank at all.. Plus it's costs with the 100mm gun are to high, even with premium you have to do pretty good to earn any credits..

The King Tiger or IS-3 are much better as real tier VIII heavy tanks if you ask me..

Tank needs armour buff.

imo the 50 100 is really nicely balanced for tier 8, but the gun could need a bit less random dispersion. The same goes for the 120mm gun on the 50 120, which also needs faster rate of fire, more depression and a bigger magazine.

Is 50 100 playable with 90mm gun? Average DPS seems to be pretty much the same as 100mm, burst is (obviously) lower, but running costs are 4 times lower :)

Never ever consider the running costs as an important factor when choosing your gun. The best gun is the only acceptable choice. And in the case of the AMX 50 100 it is obviously the 100mm cannon.

Well sure.
But I am not 100% convinced about 100mm being best in all aspects.

90mm:
240dmg per shot, 7.4 rpm

per magazine 1440
per minute 1776

100mm
300 dmg per shot 5.66 rpm

per magazine 1800
per minute 1698

So obviously 100mm has bigger burst potential, but 90mm sustained dmg.... and difference in reload time (35 to 50sec) is huge.
Big advantage of 100 mm is better penetration though....

Well will start testing this when my AMX M4 crew will be ready to transfer into AMX 50 100 :)

100mm ammo is very expensive so for a standard account the 90mm might be worth consideration. On the other hand, the 100mm is better imo because you can kill a tier 8 enemy with one magazine, really useful in a 1on1, something the 50 120 cannot do, killing a peer in a 1on1 that is.

It is exactly as I expected :(
Ammo costs are skyrocketing with 100mm...
Even if I manage really nice game ammo costs eats most of the income:

On this game repairs 11200, 2x consumables, ammo 17500....
And it was with 100% hit rate.

Playing TD is really advantage - for same ammo cost they do much more dmg - my germanT8 TD's makes money even without premium.
