Hiya Tankers,

I am thinking of trying Ranked this season for the first time and I have some questions. My initial goal is to play 20 games and collect the 1 mil credits. I dont plan on going full-gold mode, since  that would defeat the 1 mil credit prize and for now I dont care much about getting to a League. All I know its supposedly a massive gold-spamming campfest, so driving something super slow and armoured wont matter much I would think? So,

- what classes are best to play for a Ranked n00b? Faster Heavies I would presume?

- Any specific tech tree tanks that are highly recommended? (& that have high enough base pen)

- Any YT vids that explains some of the finer parts of the mode (like wth are bonus battles?) that are still valid?

- Tips & tricks you would be willing to share (always go with the lemming train! Camp! Dont play! etc)

Thanks and GL & HF!

You dont need gold to play ranked. Either play EBR or a medium tank. Progetto is good for kill stealing and easy damage.

Play for yourself as soon as you see the enemy has more tanks in a flank and you are gonna lose it back off.

Also for the 1mil credits you dont even need to perform that good , just finish the qualification games and you will get 1mil.

As someone who's looking into grinding it myself (but actually for the tanks) unlike the last seasons:

Personally, Mediums and Heavies are more likely to be promising than Lights, TDs or arty. But that's me and y'know, what I tend to play and do well in.

From your tanks (from wotlabs), personally I would pick between S.Conq, Leopard 1, Progetto 65, with some consideration to the 60TP And maybe T57 Heavy. Personally I'm planning on favouring the Leopard 1, Progetto 65 And maybe STB-1 If it's also viable. I do also have the Obj. 277, 60TP And some other stuff in reserve if I find those tanks don't work so well.

Don't try to go too ham. Play safe, try to secure yourself within a decent standing in XP And try not to mind a loss. Perhaps more so than randoms, stop playing if you're having a bad day because it could be a very quick way to lose rank after rank.

Its hard to give advice as map, team, as mm will dictate your play style . But literally playing for leagues is the only reason to play ranked

Playing ranked for credits is like paying a 'woman that sells certain types of services' for discussions about life.

Have a four week old baby, so can't play for hours every night. Playing a couple of games to get a taste and feel for the mode is what I am planning. ;)

Yeah those hotlines charge quite a lot, specially considering their language is pretty restricted to moaning, which makes a discussion rather difficult.

My advice as someone who got the Kpz 50t last time and didn't have Chieftain/279e to do it -

  • Expect terrible teams that fold in minutes just like randoms.
  • Expect people to play super safe and selfishly.
  • If you play actively and aggressively expect people to leave you hanging.
  • You need to be hyper aware when the game is going to be lost or easily won, so you can fall back and save progress, or rush forward to make sure you get progress.
  • Try to avoid tilt, if you lose some progress I'd say take a break, chasing to regain lost chevrons when you are already annoyed often doesn't go well. Supposedly progress is easier this time and less punishing than before, but we'll see.
  • If you want to earn the tank then just do enough, I think you need 9 rank tokens for it this time, which I think will only mean getting to Div 2 each 'season', sure the top prize might be nice with the extra improved equipment and getting the bonds for finishing div1, but if its becoming a grind and annoys you its probably not worth it.
  • Tank choice wise -
    • Pick something you do well in,
    • that is comfortable and flexible (i.e not super slow, turretless, terrible gun handling etc.) that stuff can work, but situational stuff will require more luck with teams/maps,
    • that has good premium pen/standard pen (you need to hit and pen your shots as it can make the difference between earning/not losing chevrons)
    • Stuff I would recommend is things like Progetto, STB-1, 277, IS-7, Super Conq (though it's slow), 430U, WZ-111-5A, Obj. 140 etc. Lights can work, if you play their role well but you'll be more map/team dependent, same with TDs and arty, even EBR this applies to, people might think its some super OP tank, but I'll tell you now having a 12s reload and at best 240 HEAT pen as your team crumbles around you, when you need to do some final shots to save your chevron because no one shot what you spotted early game, you'll be thinking why don't I have a medium tank and you'll watch some Progetto that camped base all game pop out, clip someone and steal your spot in the top 5 (#notbitter). Lights, EBR and the paper/sniper TDs, even playing their role, the meta doesn't suit them so it'll be harder than something like a 277 or 430U or Progetto.
    • Know the 'role' of your tank, what you are supposed to do, so it's not just about damage, kills and spotting, if your tank is supposed to take hits, then take some hit, block some shots (but remember there will be lots of premium ammo being fired and 2 arty in every game), if you are supposed to snipe, snipe if you can etc.
    • Have some back up tank choices, like 3-4 for those daily booster battles, because those are massive for progression.

Wait for a few days to avoid the tryhards, than play some tanks you like, the way you like it. Without premium stuff I lose about 20k for a loss and 0 credit result for a win. 20 games average -10k and you have a nice 800k profit. After that just see if you want to continue or not.

Congrats on the baby ;)

1. Most importantly, congrats for baby, and good luck with sleeping.

2. What Pansy and Tajj said. Especially checking the rest of your team don't run away and leave you exposed (avoid tunnel vision, watch minimap like hawk,  play safe) and quit playing when on tilt as you'll play worse, lose chevrons, get angrier.

I'll use 277 and EBR as base tanks, and when I'll reach rank 7-8, I'll start using my chevron boosters on other TXs.

And my goal is to reach Div 2 each season, not gonna spam gold either, because I don't care about "leagues", just for the free bonds and gold. :)

It's the nature of the mode. You want to make sure you're higher up on XP (aka, increase your chances of a chevron or more)? Let the guy in front of you die first. Good design right? :P

My only tierX is T110E5 :D

I'll buy the T57 heavy this week too...Well at least i could learn to play with it in ranked maybe....

since random battles are much more annoying for me with E5....the tank is inadequate in tierX battles...or maybe i still dont know how to do good in it after 300+ battles :D

Thanks for your input so far guys.

If I understand correctly, bonus battles double your chevron earnings? Do you get them in Qualifiers already or once you get passed that?

Im wondering as well. Cause I want someting to spend my bond on (the Kpz50t) but have never played the Ranked before. Do have the 430U, 268v4, E4, E5 and fv183 in the garage and if I have to might get me the 277, Prog 65 or Super Donq like tomorrow (just have to grind some credits).

I honesly only care about getting the Kpz50t - dont have a need to go through Ranked just for the sake of playing it...
