I am considering getting russian T8 heavy for bonds and Im not sure which one to get. From what I heard, IS-5 is IS-3 with a bit more armor and much worse gun handling. IS-6 on the other hand, 186 pen gun isn't exactly enough for fighting tier 8 heavies, and ~210 premium pen is like most tier 8 standard ammo. Is any of these 2 tanks worth the bonds?

Save your bonds for improved equipment, something more useful.

I own both the IS5 and the IS6.

There was a brief moment after I received it when the IS5 was effective. It no longer is and has not been for a considerable time. Do not spend bonds on it.

IS6 is a different matter. It used to be extremely good, mainly due to the preferential match making. It used to be one of the most heavily armoured tanks in tier VIII with armour that actually worked, and so the modest penetration was not the end of the world. However then the Defender/Object 252U and the VK 100.01 (P) were brought into the game under that moron Murazor. Those two tanks effectively took the niche that the IS6 sat in and ruined it. The IS6 is still decent but no longer the armour king of tier VIII. Personally I would say you can still have decent games in an IS6 although less often than in the past. So it remains a decent crew trainer. Is it worth bonds? Not in my opinion. Although bonds have become easier to obtain their scarcity value means that they are probably better used on purple equipment on your favourite tank, or on directives where tanks or crews you are grinding need assistance to be less painful to play.

IS-5 is inaccurate and long aiming time. In stronghold can use but...IS-3 is better.

IS-6 is preferential matchmaking, max tier is 9. I would choose IS-6.

Well, Im not all that interested into competative aspect of the game, so purple equipment is not a deal braker for me. Is it better than standard one? Sure as hell. But not by a lot from what I've seen.

And as a free player, with booklets for silver, its not that hard to train crew (and I already have churchill III anyway), I just need tank I enjoy playing to grind credits. I have Patriot and Liberte already, but I dont enjoy those 2 all that much. I will get 112 soon from refferal, so, maybe that one? But I heard it doesnt really earn that much because it needs to use quite a bit of premium ammo

You'd be better off throwing your bonds into a trash bin than spending it on either of those two tanks.

Rule out the IS5 as it does not make good silver due to missing shots.

IS6 is not a super credit earner as if it meets a super heavy it will have trouble penetrating it. But the essence of the IS6 is to carefully look at the line up as the match begins, and if necessary fight the mediums.

I like the IS6 but I am not a free2play player. I have other tanks which make better silver, and of the heavies (that I own) the Lowe is the best silver maker consistently as it has an accurate nice handling gun with good penetration. If the IS6 is what you want to spend bonds on then of the two it is the better option. Personally I would be tempted to hold onto the bonds for another six months and see what the next change brings into the bond shop.

IS-6 isn't worth it anymore.

IS-5 used to be meta in times gone, but currently? Meh.

IS-6 was awesome before the MM changes killed pref MM. Loved that tank. I played it perhaps 3-5 times after the changes and to sum the experience up: You can go F yourself in an IS6.

217 gold pen on a tier 8 HT in 2020:

Don´t waste your bonds on any of those tanks.

What MM change you are dreaming about? T8 with pref mm. means you will meet T8 and T7 mostly. And its the same for at least 8 years now. Pref mm. is a huge deal, I see T9 in my Type59 every 6-7th match.
