For instance, in the garage you are allowed to select several tanks of the same tier, and only when the map is loaded you must choose one of those tanks?

EDIT: There could still be tank class slots on a first-come, first-served basis to prevent same tank class proliferation. Basically like when you select a tank in Frontline!

Imo, it'll make the gameplay worse, for instance, you see prokhorovka, then you chose to be arty, then what? Everyone else choose arty, then it'll be arty party! :great:

i think would be better to be allowed to ban 1 or 2 maps (premium or not) by tanks category (ban paris and himmelsdorf in arty or ensk and pearl river in TD for example)

It would be very bad. Imagine having 1 chief 1 ebr and 2 other random tanks , City Map or Westfield = Chieftain , open maps  =EBR

You make it sound bad somehow.

In any case, what if there were still tank class slots on a first-come, first-served basis?

Randoms are fun because you can take whatever tank and globally do well in it with the necessary skill.

Nearly all suggestions to "improve" gameplay such as skill based balancing, ranked, or something like this, would only serve to make playing anything but the most meta tanks obsolete. That would kill the game (or at least speed up decay even more than powercreep and funnel map design has already caused).

There is an alternative... analyse which vehicle type the maps are overall best suited for:

TD -> NO (issue with teammates running off to die and no spotting, slow moving and need ranged combat).

Arty -> NO (your teammates manage to die before you can reload).

Light - > Ok, class.. but limited potential unless you love EBR.

Heavy ->  Ok class. Certain maps may be a nightmare with 3x Arty on enemy team.

Medium -> Fits gameplay on most maps in my opinion.

So there.... if you pick a medium you might have a better outcome in many games.

However if you like to experiment and try all vehicles in the game you simply can't avoid the pain from certain games.

How would it be worse than not choosing a non-meta tank before the map loads, as it is now?

Because maps favour some tanks over others. With this everyone would always pick the best tank for the map. Prokh will ALWAYS have 3 arty for example.

I think the player base has a bit more self respect than that mate... you'd see three artilery, and twelve lights.

I think I made my feelings clear on power creep and map design, but at least it puts you up in a random pool, and not against allies and enemies that generally all specifically picked the most fitting tank for the map concerned.

I play War Thunder where I am free to choose any of several tanks in my setup after I see the map - and there are certain meta tanks there as well, and yet there is never proliferation of any particular "stronk" tank in any of my battles. For instance I see a hilly map and I may choose Dicker Max, yet when the match starts there are plenty mediums, heavies, etc. Or the map loads with a one contested capture point in the middle and I may choose a fast boi, but there will be still plenty slower mediums and heavies, and so on. You may say that there are respawns, but initially the players are still tempted to choose a tank that would give them some joy on that map, so respawns are irrelevant until/if they happen.

At the end of the day, in War Thunder I see people just choosing the tanks they like to play, and different people like different tanks, as simple as that. So I honestly don't understand why it would be any different in World of Tanks?

So that lights, arty, paper TDs and some mediums only go for open maps while heavies, some mediums and assault TDs only go for city maps?

No, thank you.

And PLEASE, I beg of you, I've played War Thunder for longer than I've played WoT, you're a new player, I beg of you to stop drawing comparisons. WT has a plethora of problems that no new player will encounter for a lot of time, and on topic, it doesn't have any good map, at all. All are easy to exploit and none go well with the gameplay style at all, unlike in WoT, where at least stuff like Prokhorovka, Redshire, Murovanka and a couple others exist.
