So, it's midday(ish) on a  Saturday with less than 50000 players across both servers and WG about to shaft us all royally with Equipment 2.0.

Methinks those poor server numbers are going to get poorer.

Well it does fit into their plan of only having a single EU server by next year, which can only hold 25k players.

no, it's OK. They are bringing back the guys they permanently banned, so everything is Graham Goochy.

Is it wrong to admit to a degree of schadenfreude, that all those chaps who spent bonds to get their OP reward tanks only have other chieftains to fight right now?

Under 50k ?

That would be just in Europe, don't forget Russia, its massive, then China, etc..

War Thunder total online now is just 57k, that is globally.

If you look at the figures for 2017, 2018, and 2019 there is always a dip at this time of year.

Probably due to a combination of (a) school holidays, (b) people taking a holiday, (c.) it is sunny outside and nice to sit there and walk around, (d) barbecues (e) the opposite sex in light weight attractive clothing.

The server numbers will stay low until people return from holiday, the weather gets worse and the nights get dark earlier. There has always been an uptick in numbers come Autumn. The thing to really watch are the winter numbers when World of Tanks is always at a peak. The last biggest peak was when the Swedish line came out in combination with Christmas events and player numbers spiked up hard.

This could be the final coffin in the wasteland that is the NA server for sure.

I had considered that but I don't rightly recall numbers this low before - maybe I'm imagining things, I'm sure someone must have those numbers somewhere.

No, server population decline is a trend over last 5 years. Check the server charts. Even RU one.

I’m not playing anymore. I’m waiting till Equipment 2.0 hits so I can accurately determine how screwed I am and decide wether to even bother playing this game anymore. No point wasting any time or effort on it till then. So far it looks I’m 15 million credits down. Highly doubt I’m going to bother grinding those back unless WG gives me a 1 month free premium account and a stack of credit boosters :)

valid points, but a bigger factor is surely that the game is going down the pan. Whatever the Covid restrictions in play right now, my little town is deserted. People are still indoors way more than last summer, and yet...

Except something slightly odd happened in 2020, which means none of that comparison applies anymore......

normally at this time I’d turn on the airco, fire up WoT and play while following the Formula 1. This time I’ll be watching on the sofa.

Peak numbers? Sure. As to be expected for any massive game after almost a decade. As we did barely went over 200K at peak this Xmas for more than a few days, vs more or less 3 weeks in a row 2 years before. But, we still have drops to sub 50K each summer due to various reasons. Some earlier then others. 2 years ago we got a massive drop the week the world cup started, last year it came when the massive heatwave came rolling in.

This year is different tho. It dropped slower due to the pandemic ofc. As we had 90K for longer than usual. So that sub 50K drop came way later than the norm. But recently most nations did open up more and even allowed travel to other nations. The drop more or less came when that did happen. As most have been locked up for 4 months playing WOT. I'm sure they want to get out, and don't have equipment 2.0 in mind much. Even more so with the temperatures that just started rising again. It was 11 degrees here last week. 27 today.

Point is. We see drops each summer, and the summer patch never gets high numbers. And we know it will go up again. But the question then is to how much. And that is always lower than last year too unless there is some amazing content in the Fall or Winter.

If you look at the unofficial figures above you can see the year on year trend is lower at every peak and trough.

This year did indeed see a double peak and then a quick trough to reach the lowest level ever.

And bearing in mind that most of europe has been in lock down for almost half of the year so far and the kids have been at home in most countries whilst the schools were shut

So of all the years so far this one SHOULD have seen a huge spike in numbers, not the lowest figures ever which pretty much says it all really

But hey, wait till the real  implications of the equipment 2.0 start to come home to people after its introduced, I suspect WG will be wishing they had THESE "lowest ever figures" rather than the ones they will have by then lol

And whilst them losing what I suspect will be a HUGE number of the free to play players, they will also be losing the income from players like myself who spend quite a bit on the game throughout the year as I'm not spending another dime on the game because of the equipment 2.0 and I doubt very much I will be alone in that
