For those of us minded to exploit the game's foibles, it has always seemed to me that you cannot go far wrong with a Tier 4 TD

Without exception they have guns that can put holes in any Tier 6 opponent and will eviscerate same or lower tiers

Do they have any downsides?  Not that I can see

I am rubbish as a player but even I can get above average results in these things

My personal favourites are the SU85B and SU76GFT as an 85 mm gun at Tier 4 is pretty special, but they are all pretty good really

both soviet and chinese td's are ok.

hetzer is meh because of its' total lack of side and rear armor and a weak LFP and no viewrange.

marder is miles ahead.

I would feel a bit mean playing either the Marder and Hetzer as they are so ridiculously OP even for me to be embarrassed using them.  Hetzer has the KABOOM factor

But I can't see that any young person, not having any spare money, and looking to get ahead in the game, would scruple to use any Tier 4 TD

This leads on to an interesting discussion which is how good actually are these TDs

Lanrefni has highlighted the Marder as great and the Hetzer as bad

I do 491 damage in my Marder and 430 in my Hetzer

Neither score is terrible

Yet I do far more damage than either in my SU85B or SU76GFT, both of which can punch holes in brick walls, blow up soft-skins with HE,  and do horrid damage generally with their 85 mm guns

Loved chinese td's, especially tiers 4-6. Even that house-sized tier 5 was a joy to play.

Tier 7 is pretty powerful too, but felt a bit sluggish and more situational.

As for other tier 4's, Alecto was pretty fun too.

I have been toying with getting the Tier 5/6 Chinese TDs

Alecto is hilarious to play and very effective.  The name is an interesting example of everyone in the UK in those days having a bit of Latin and Greek
