so i have superheavy  spall liner on my s conq in the right slot which means -60% HE shell so how can an arty hit me for 600 damage on my tracks and in a position that is really hard for arty to even hit me also another shell nearly 500 damage on the move , is this a joke?

Spall liner works as described, you just don't understand the HE mechanics.

Spall liner doesn't reduce damage from penetrating shots. CGC has quite a high shell trajectory so it's likely he hit the top of your turret and penned.

It's almost as though arty is in the game to act as a counter to such tactics instead of allowing heavy tanks to take up a position and simply sit there farming damage. How strange. :arta:

I guess it wasn't changed then... I thought now it was a flat reduction to HE damage, instead of "increasing effective armor thickness calculation against HE impact to reduce received damage".

Guess this is proof.

Or OP forgot to actually equip it. :P That'd be a laugh.

Yes exactly. Another great counter is 420 Pen Heat shells that do 1000 damage. Arty is and Hard hitting TD's are the perfect Hard counter to tanks that are hulldown.

I highly engourage people To play a heavy tank that is perfectly balanced and fair for all and that is the Tiger P. :) thank you.

I've been doing some reading on this. Apparently a spall liner is only effective against lower calibre HE shells on tanks that have thick hull sides and roofs. It's down to the splash mechanics, the explosion will go through the thinnest armour in the splash radius. When arty has a large gun like a CGC or T92 the splash is large enough to work around the thick armour, hence OP taking 500-600 damage despite running a liner. He'd have had better results against a BatChat or Obj.261 but that's scant consolation now.

Why?

Why is that important?
If he want to equip, let him.

And with regards to the Liner, I also believe the description is a bit wonky here. The way how its written down makes one think its straight up X% reduction (plus the other benefits) from incoming HE.
I can very much understand that someone thinks that, if he gets hit for 600 Dmg worth, the liner would decrease that amount with 60% so about 240-ish.
But as it turns out.. the circumstances for when the liner works seem very... specific (almost misleading)

And with how much is left to some form of chance in this game, I can't say that the liner seems reliable for the very few situations it works well for.

Maybe it would've been better if the liner actually did straight up decrease HE dmg, it could potentially solve a lot of problems people have with arty, the deathstars and HE spam from other tanks.

And maybe even make the spall liner a very worthwhile investment to choose. Probably the numbers would need some tweaking though

[Edit: corrected argumentation)

Bear in mind, spall liner does not protect you against “splash“, it’s only against direct hits (but non-penetration ofc). So, if the arty shots close to you (or even shot your track) you’ll get most of damage from splash and spall liner has nothing to do with it ( oh, ok, reduce stun for 2-3 sec :D ).
I like the comment “Why” :P though:trollface:
Cuz tbh the real profit of it only for super heavy tanks (Maus, Type, 705 etc.)

The question was also raised in another thread somewhere. Why mount a spal liner in stead of something else.

I do not run any liners on any tank, and that includes E100, Obj705A, 60TP.

I run them with hardening, IAU and turbo iirc.

Ooh and I should add. Even with my misunderstood interpretation of how it worked I thought it was not good enough to use, and this actually makes it even worse, because you're not nearly as protected as you'd think.

This is the only spall related item you should use on Super Conqueror:

This is one of those statements that require proof.

Also here is a head-scratcher for you.  Perhaps arty does not want to spend the game countering ridge campers and your tactic prevents them from playing how they want?

No, I'm sure he's probably right, but then countering hulldown tanks is exactly what they should be doing, so....?
