I've had some fun a Tier 3 for a while and I'm now thinking I have enough experience to level up to Tier 4. I'm wondering if the British tech tree Matilda is worth a try or is there a stand out Tier 4 tank that isn't a TD or SPG?

YES!!!

Once I was alone v 13 enemies and killed 8 of them before I died in Matilda, its super fun and because of uber ultra mega high pen you can even do dmg in tier 6 games

If you can deal with (very) slow tanks, sure. Just don't expect miracles of the armor, it is good, but not impenetrable.

Some other strong T4 tanks would be T6 medium (basically has the Sherman derp gun one tier lower with pretty decent armor) or the P26/40 (pretty high HE pen on a normal gun).

Definitely, one man who I cannot stand and will never forgive, in game taught me to love this tank, the only decent thing he ever did for me and boy oh boy, you get in a platoon of these things, fun fun fun, you can keep all your supposedly OP trash like the Defender, Libertie and Patriot, this did get a nerf as they took away the gun rammer, but this is one, by all means get it.

The Matilda is an excelent tank, especially with the top gun.

You have to be able to deal with slow, and sadly you can no longer fit a rammer, but despite this it is well worth it.

The armour is very good, and is almost impossible for many low tier tanks to pen..however, most of the low tier tanks that people actually play normaly have the guns to do the job, even if only sometimes, and t6 guns rarely have any problems, but overall it will often save your bacon, unlike most armour in the game.

It's a slow tank. But high ROF with 121mm normal pen. What's not to like? It doesn't care what it aims at, you have enough pen for most of it regardless of MM.

There are many ridiculously OP tanks at Tier 4 and Matilda is one of them.

Decent money-maker too, due to the high pen AP shells.

Thanks all, I think I'll grab one to put Queen Maeve in.

I have a Tortoise and driven the Black Prince, so I know what slow feels like.
