You've played the other Chinese meds, right? They're fuel tanks wrapped in ammo racks and with the crew glued onto the outside. Erm, the following link should show module locations for you.

That orange thing behind the upper plate on the right is the fuel tank.

The red block next to it is the driver so large calibre shells penetrating the upper plate will probably kill the driver or damage/destroy the fuel tanks. In real life the fuel tanks were supposed to provide an extra layer of armour to protect the ammo rack. In WOT they just burn. And a lot of Soviet and Chinese tanks have this arrangement.

Not as bad as the old german frontal transmission used to be!

I blame Mr. Zaloga and poor game logic for this.
Panther vs Sherman: Battle of the Bulge 1944
The Panther had a poor reputation regarding fire safety among German tank crews due to the fire hazard of the hydraulic fluid used in the transmission, fuel leaks in the complicated fuel cell linkage and fires caused by engine back blast, but its excellent armor reduced the likelihood that it would be penetrated in tank combat.

I only mentioned it as another example where a tank, or series of tanks, suffered particularly. WG changed it, it is no big issue. You started attributing causes for it, I joined in. That's typically how conversations work...

And that's how it ran its course. In this case, both sides have nothing more to contribute. I am sure you noticed that. Would you like me to agree with you some more?

Yep, which is why what followed seemed odd to me.

Frankly I couldn't care less about some issue from 4-5 years ago but you do you.
Meh, either way, hope the OP finds the info helpful.

I am not sure what you mean by 'what followed'. It looks to me like a friendly chat about something that was in the game several years ago with a bit of history.
I might have read too much into it, but it sounded like you started complaining about the conversation and my participation in it. I may have got to wrong impression though.

Its a common problem, but I think for all chinese tanks.
Auto fire extinguishers, try for fire exting. skill and maybe the directives too.

Thanks for the info, yeah that sux but oh well.
Was running food, but using my type 59 crew so they have firefighting, sadly I didn't have enough hit points left to survive even the smaller fire

Being someone who has played the 121 alot, I can confirm that ammoracking is a pretty common problem.
Before equipment 2.0, I would try using wet ammoracks, while having safe stowage on my loader, but is no longer the case.
