Well , let's start off by saying that i'm very lacking in the patience department.

I grinded through 4 stages in a couple of hours , and then bought myself the obj 274a.

Seemed great / borderline OP on paper ( and i'll be honest .. if i see something overpowered my wallet is going to have a bad day)

So i bought it with a 40 percent discount!

I head into my first battle and notice that this thing is very very slow for a medium. I knew from the stats it wasn't going to be fast but i wasn't expecting it to be borderline slow.

Fine , i think. I can deal with it.

... do i see an enemy o-ho in the open?

oh boy i'm gonna have some fun

*miss*

*miss*

*miss*

*bounce*

*hit*

Huh , must be bad rng i guess. After all i'm using my 5 skill obj 140 crew and improved equipment.

*miss*

*miss*

Okay man what the hell did i buy?

OK , whatever. At least it has armor.

>penned through gun mantlet

>hit by arty for 400 which is 1/3rd my hp.

Umm , is it too late for a refund? :teethhappy:

Yeah this has basically been my experience after 48 battles.

People calling this thing overpowered have obviously not played it before.

Armor doesn't really work that well , considering the 6 degrees of gun depression , you can't really use it all too often.

You can't do usual medium tank things , such as getting to a position fast to get an early shot. Usually you'll be the guy getting shot before you get into position , much like a heavy.

The mobility could be compared to a t-10 , although the obj is slightly slower.

However , it's not all bad. If you do get a decent position at a decent range , it's very very hard for the enemies to dig you out of positions.

And the DPM is great , assuming you hit your shots.

This isn't a full W kind of tank , in my opinion the skillcap is very high if you want to do well with this tank.

So just beware of this , and don't rush in to buy the tank the second you've got a decent discount going.

That's all folks , just wanted you guys to know a bit more about the tank.

Have a good one!

Dante

So, it's not an overpowered Russian medium? How quaint.

If you like to miss all of your shots, then yeah, Defender is good!

skill4ltu suggested putting improved equipment on it to make it good as standard equip will end up like you describe.

I played two tier 10 games and alt f4'd cuz it's so bad. Now I can rest easy knowing I don't need to endure such horrible gameplay for this tank.

Thanks for the review

Venting system , stabilizing equipment system & a rammer

Tried all different kinds of things out and this one seems to be the sweetspot for this tank.

had a lot of fun watchin' his yt. Given he doesn't bother to look at the stats before playing. Was very funny to see him dropping vstab when the gun is so trash at snapping to begin with :P

I'd probably go with improved aiming over vents or something, if hitting things is as troublesome as you claim. :hiding:

I'd really only take vents if I don't really know what else to improve on a tank, or maybe if I'm really minmaxing viewrange on a tank or something.

both stabs + rammer seems the way; if good crew/food obviously. Accy seems ok; snapping otoh...

if cheap like me and no food on premiums... no buy? :P Dunno, guess I'll skip this one.

Would be a shame to waste the mobility slot , the lower dispersion vents offers is also something to not forget.

And yeah it's probably not for you  , i fear that to be competitive with this tank you need a pimped out crew, improved equipment and yes .. food .. and quite a lot of gold as well.

I think this is a reason why WG lets it carry so much ammo , because they know you're going to be missing half the shots anyway haha.

Just saw this! Might as well respond.

To get max viewrange without optics (which i strongly suggest not using in this tank , because of the mentioned horrible gun handling) , you need vents.

I've got recon and situational awareness on my crew + food and without the vents it does not hit 445m

So there's that + a 0.2 second faster reload time , slightly better dispersion , etc ..

So dropping all of that , for if my memory doesn't fail me about a 0.02 decrease in dispersion doesn't seem worth it.

But that's just my opinion of course.

edit ** and the reason you want at least 445m is because you need to play safe/smart in this tank , which means often you'll be trying to outspot the enemy.

You really feel the low amount of hp this tank has if you even take a 390 alpha shot. So preserving your HP in this tank is extra important imo.

I don't mind wastin' the mobility slot, given I do it on most tanks anyway. Or ok, using improved/bounty eq to be more exact.

but yeah, I don't really like the new trend where they make it so you need to run food/spam gold on premiums. Like borat/lis - lowish base pen, borat bad accy, etc. I mean... I'm playin' the premiums to grind the credits for the food on tanks I'm actually marking or just enjoy playing. Couldn't care less about stats in premiums. They just need to produce the silver in the optimal amount/hour.

lis - really good tank. Probably top 3 premium meds. Very nice; I like it. Actually even usin' food on it. Problem? Doesn't really produce the cash =)))

p.s. - but lis is enjoyable tank to play. This one otoh seems just... clunky. Good; but clunky.

Have you tried vents - vstab - aiming thingy +food? Still 2.3k dpm but you tight up aiming time almost to 2s.

Don't know about the 274 specifically but I do trade rammer at times for improved aiming. There is not really a point of maximizing dpm if you don't hit your shots imo. It's a decent workaround if you don't want to rum food or have a bad crew.

Only at (very) short range 1v1 you will regret it...

Also bought it yesterday and have around the same amount of battles as the OP.

With 6 skill 140 crew and Vert Stab, Rammer and Vents. No food or directives used.

Armor - sometimes perfect, sometimes cheese

Mobility - its ok, but nothing more. Uphill is a disaster.

Gun is derpy. Misses fully aimed shots and a few seconds later you hit a target at 300m on the move.

Ammo - Dont even use that much gold ammo

Viewrange - crew is good enough for me to not use optics but with a lesser crew you will have to make a choice.

HP - biggest problem so far for me. After two or three hits you are a oneshot for most tanks.

If I have to describe it - a bit more mobile Defender would be my guess. I really do like it so far. And it has it good points, but it is not all good, it has it drawbacks.

I don't have it (yet), but looking gameplay from popular streamers I would say Progetto 46 still has the tier 8 medium tank crown.

It was interesting to view QB review video about it.

Fantastic tank according to QB, outstanding stats.

However I think he failed to mention that you will meet tier X tanks 90% of the time. His video show two 8 games where the tank obviously is good..

So basically it is a good tank, but the MM will punish you and seems to give you tough opponents (Tier 9 & 10) as a punishment.

The speed is laughable, nowhere near reaching 58 km/h.

Claus Kellerman gave up after 17 (?) games and started playing another tank since MM was beyond hopeless (90% tier X games).
