You feel damn right stupid ending up in the occasional tier X battle with that pref MM tank then.

Well, maybe not feel, that depends. Look, in any case.

The highest MM in the platoon is then made the valid one. As in +2.

This. There are outliers; for example, the E 25 can double as a light tank in competent hands, so seeing Tier 9 isn't necessarily the end of the world, but you're still severely disadvantaged.

You are likely to wind up in a +2 MM battle.

This is what old hands would call "failed platoon".

When you are in a platoon, the matchmaker will always look at the highest tier spread available among the platooning tanks.

Let's say you are in an IS-6 and your buddy is in an IS-3. The IS-6 has -2/+1 (preferential) MM, but the IS-3 has -2/+2 (standard) MM. This means that, even though you're both Tier 8, the matchmaker will look at the IS-3 MM spread, and so you can end up in a Tier 10 match.

tl;dr - don't fail platoon, as we call it.

With the lower tiers bonus it could be a way to ace tanks ;)

Had a clan mate who would take his KV-2 into tier 10 games, wreck face and ace it regularly. :P

That's because KV-2 cares not for tiers.
