Spoiler

Hey, so I liked idea of British having this high angle of attack. So I decided to go for their line. However, their tier 5-6 is bloody painful. I had M44 to compare them as I'm grinding American line due to its uniqueness and reputation. So, F304 SPG has absolutely no advantages. You have to put yourself in danger on bigger maps. I understand that higher tier arty will get more range, better gun, etc. However, after getting a taste of low tier British artillery, I must say that angle of attack advantage does not seem that relevant. Places where normal arty would not be effective applies and to this one. There is no escape from city maps! Having to move is a massive disadvantage as you lose opportunities and later on, arty need to be pre-aimed in order to be effective. In general, I love idea of an artillery which has to aim and is supposed to score direct hits. However, British artillery seems to get nothing in return for that and from stats, they will get short stick on guns in the end. So, I will try to tell you what I like and maybe you could direct me on lines which I would like.

What I value is reliability. In my arty I would like to see a good arch of fire, because these things do cost me a lot. I would like to see arty with a gun which behaves and can punish people who disrespect it. I'm so tired seeing idiots sitting in the open and my gun being unable to hit stationary target when fully aimed and just splashing the target. Now when I had tried playing low tiers a little bit and I think I know what I want, I do think about my options and I would appreciate if maybe you could either comment what is grind like towards that artillery piece and if you recommend me going for it.

Obj.261

I have no idea why Wargamming decided to give this artillery 5/5 gun arc. It is already pretty balanced and I would had loved going for it. It has an amazingly well behaving gun and fast reload at the cost of a lot weaker damage and low gun arch. To me, -5/5 gun arch is really a huge minus, because I can't be flexible and aim elsewhere. I always have to keep in mind where my tank's hull is facing and if I don't my aim gets screwed up. In theory you can be skilled enough for it don't matter, but why I should bother? It is not like with a good -15/15 gun arch would be powerful. It is well balanced artillery with annoying perk which won't matter if you are good player, but just sometimes will screw you over. Bizzare balancing.

G.W.E.100

I honestly do not understand point of this artillery. It seems to be in between other arties, but its gun arch compared to T92 HMC really kills it as being viable alternative. 45 vs 65 elevation difference really makes T92 HMC more flexible piece of artillery while this one must find a small incline to alleviate its gun. Also, same horrible gun traverse of 12 degrees. It just seems so mediocre and unexceptional. It has a derpy gun, but doesn't have the best derp so what is the point of it?

T92 HMC

Most straightforward arty to go for. It has the best derp and not the worst accuracy together with most horizontal shell trajectory of 65. I do like the power of its gun and I think, it will be one of my SPGs towards which I'm going to continue to grind for.

B-C 155 58

How you can't just love this French piece of modern SPG engineering? It has a turret and an autoreloader allowing to deliver the hurt where it is needed. I do enjoy hitting direct shots on tanks and I do consider its high dpm and high burst potential together with best accuracy and amazing aim time to be a great choice. I also enjoy mobility on my artillery and being able to derp people in the face. It seems just a fantastic piece of artillery being able to run away and still be a dangerous threat to any tank wanting to farm some damage. It also has the strongest support capabilities in term of all artillery in a game with strongest stunning values per dpm and ability to engage multiple threats in one salvo. I'm going for this one in hopes of sniping enemy tanks directly and causing massive damage to anyone dumb enough not to hide from me!

Conqueror GC

Seems to be the worst artillery out of the line. Accuracy is so bad that you can't expect to land your shell anywhere close to enemy tank even if it is stationary. It doesn't have even best derp. Nor it has elevation. I had heard that this artillery is supposed to be like deadly lazer from space, being able to derp you despite cover you take. I was going to get this artillery, because I thought this one will be able to be effective in city maps. However, I'm not seeing anything special about in stats and I'm dreaded to think if it won't be able to cover entire map with its gun. And the shell travel time! Do these shell orbit Earth once before landing?

Maybe I should check it out youtube reviews on it. On paper it looks horrible.

I also had unlocked M12 and I'm starting to feel how it would look like to play high tier artillery. Reload rate is sooo long that it frustrates me. It feels so bad to miss a shot, especially when fully aimed. Game for some reason does not seem to properly draw aiming reticule, because even if you aim for center mass, shots have extremely frustrating tendency to fly high and overshoot tanks by wide margin making your shot useless. It is also frustrating to wait half a minute for something which will do 100-300 damage and is very finicky in hitting targets. Maybe it will do better with second gun and then I will retrain my crew with hold next week.

Don't participate in the blight on the game that is arty.

But if you absolutely must, go for the US line and keep the tier 6 and 9. They're absolutely disgusting.

And if you want to play arty and a clan, get the British arty, it's the best at dislodging relatively static targets and is good at lobbing shells over objects because of the ridiculous shell arc.

Yes, it is strange, but for some reason there's a price you have to pay for raining hell on targets that can't fight back. All higher tier/alpha artillery has a long reload and can miss horrendously out of nowhere. Then again, you can also blindfire a bush and delete a light tank out of nowhere, so hey-ho.

Seeing the amount of games you have: crew skill also comes into it. Do you have a 100% crew or did you just get a new crew or retrain for credits? A sub 100% crew cripples any tank.

212A is very underrated. It's a great arty. It can hit anywhere in the map, the tank itself is mobile and can relocate easily. It has a good reload for such a large gun, only 5 seconds slower than the 261. And I get more pens in this arty compared to others for some reason, just yesterday I penned a moving light tank for 1200. I can easily break 3k sometimes even 4k combined in my 212A. I'd only consider the 261 for the better accuracy. But for damage potential, 212A wins.

Because the way it is implemented is completely broken and while it's supposed to counter passive play, it punishes pushing and activity, without having a realistic counterplay.

Broken? I player tier 5 usa arty, did not see any bugs.

And as for the counterplay, actually I managed to kill arties with french armoured car in first 2 minutes of the game.

As long as it's not the BC. It's only good for stun farming, not damage farming unless the entire enemy team is made from paper. It rolls 100 vs Super heavies etc IF you're lucky.

I'm going to file this under "sub 500 game optimism". Report back when you get "missed" for a quarter of your hp and a crew member or two while going 60km/h and turning.

But seriously. The point of arty is digging out hull down tanks, people being static etc. In reality, if you want the big numbers in arta, you just pen an stb-1 through the front instead of bothering with that heavy you'll damage only a little bit. It's a class that requires minimal risk to have a big impact on people's enjoyment on the game, and it completely misses the mark when it comes to what it's "supposed" to do.

so if I understand this correctly you are unhappy because arty players shoot different targets than those you would choose?

who are you to determine what is arty used for? And what kind of targets arty should choose? Obviously you are not game developer.

You do not understand me correctly at all.

What I'm going with is WG's own statements on what they want arty to have as a role in the game. And in practice, when playing arty, you're way better off doing something other than the intended role. For some reason  you seem to think I blame people playing arty. I don't. I blame WG for creating a class with a certain concept, and then implementing it in a way that playing according to that concept is pointless and not having the balls to fix it for years now. If you want more, just go browse the pinned arty thread.

ok i get it. And yes I saw few pages of arty thread and all I saw is "arty is broken because it shoots me and i can't shoot back".

This is totally absurd because it is not 1 vs 1 but team game with equal number of arties.

So this "unfair"...well it is not argument, it is more like compains and they do not stand to scrutiny.

But back to the subject. So according to you, developers said that arty is about punishing camping but implemented arty in a wrong way and thus arty does not fullfil it's role.

However I find this logic flawed. Game is quite complicated and developers can't just predict everything. So what if players use arty in a different way than predicted by developers? It is typical for human ingenuity. Many things in life are used differently than originaly envisioned. So what?

It's very hard to take you seriously if  you just keep coming with childish responses like this.

Stop implying stuff, start actually reading what people say.

As for the last part, of course they can't predict everything, they did have over 10 years to evaluate by now though :)

me childish? and those who cry about "arty hitting me" are not childish? Wow you just made huge fool of yourself.

On second point you are right. Developers had 10 years to evaluate. Obviously they do not agree with you.
