I remember reading somewhere that it's likely to go into closed beta in Q1 2012.

Well it should certainly be intresting, I may have to grab a joystick if it looks worth it.

I would say dont get your hopes up for anything earlier than March, but even then I think it will be later than that.

Basing beta key recipients on drawings? Shouldn't they do it on criteria like ability to find bugs, computing skills etc?

It's clearly stated as "soon" on the forums. March isn't soon.

Soon is a very vague term. The best that they have given for a time is Q1 2012 which March is a part of.

I'm just miffed that the RAF isn't in it from the start. He's to hoping the RN will be first in WoB.

World of Battleships hasn't got a slated release date yet, not even alpha testing. World of Waplanes is supposed to go to closed beta "soon" only way to sign up for it right now is to win a contest.

While I can understand why some of you would want joystick support, I'm strongly against it.
This will be no simulation, but arcade style just as wot. I LOVED to play Il2 1946 with X52 Pro, and I would probably still play it if damn thing wasn't so defective.
I bought first that was malfunction, so I returned it to local store. They had no replacement for me so I got refund. I bought another one from another country. It was great at first, but very soon axes started tilting, stick losing calibration and so. I was so disappointed with it because it was very expensive "toy" for my standards in here.
I'm gamer since early 90's. And I can't name a game that was so much fun for me as playing Il-2 1946. I hope World of Warplanes gets decent keyboard/mouse controls.

But I want my Alpha Test premium at release, and I'm not invited yet!
/troll

Oh wait, didn't we just bump a January thread?
Well, Overlord said on his blog that they are still in very early Alpha, and there are 400,000 applicants, and they don't need that much.
Chances to get in are low, but the Alpha will take longer and if we are lucky, we will get Closed Beta at around the end of Q2.
