Hello,

Today I remembered of an idea I had some time ago. It is about implementing a "new" game feature called "Dynamic Formations".

To keep the game evolving and make the gameplay more interesting, it is a very simple thing to do.

So, what am I thinking of?

I assume most of you are familiar with the games from the Total War series. Well, I think it would be very interesting if we would have the option to pick our own spawn locations (formations) during countdown within existing (or slightly larger) margins.

The idea is we can do something like this before the battle starts:

Dynamic Formations

Simple feature but looks fun!

You make the circle where we all spawn a bit bigger and fill it up with lots of spawn spots that you just click during countdown. If you dont click a spot you get the default random spawn on any free spot.

Why I think we need this?

1. To evolve the game further

2. To make it more interesting

3. To make the game more realistic

4. To predict lemming trains and choose to or not to join them

5. To avoid frustration with bad luck on bad tanks (Airfield, Maus spawns on medium side and gets farmed while going mid)

6. To help platoons stick together creating wolfpacks

7. Sometimes prevent getting spotted early by EBRs

8. Allowing to take better positions fast more often

9. Sometimes prevent early blind shots at start of game

10. Evolve the tactical gameplay in Clan Wars (would love to see this)

Thats it. Please vote on the poll and share your thoughts about the idea. If this goes viral it can become a feature. Thanks!

Im going to say NO. Because now I fully believe WG when they say that they know they playerbase better than we know ourselves...

Nice argument. God forbid someone supports an idea that actually looks good...

I admire your optimism, but you are overestimating Steve. You're assuming... Steve will pick a good spot based on others, in a formation, and follow up on it. Once they are allowed to move, it's back to the same old swarms to the same spot for it to make the difference. Most WOT people are creatures of habit. If they are in a TD on Fisherman's bay. They are going B2, regardless of where the formation puts them.

Can we have a "Don't know" or "Not sure" option?

Seems a good idea at first glance, but I can forsee problems, the first of which is all maps will need a redesign and that takes time and testing, as would the battle loading system.

It sounds good that LT's could spawn at the front or sides for instance, TD's close to their favourite spots (bushes), but what if a slow HT picks a forward position hoping to reach a certain point before the enemy? Are we going to get complaints and forum threads about xxx player choosing the wrong spot, or "its not fair" all the good spots were taken by the time my client loaded in?

As I say, sounds good on paper, but needs to be placed in the suggestion thread with more flesh on the bones.

Too bad WG is too busy with the most important feature - crew 2..0

definitely no. All maps would need redesign; and good luck with that.

And without redesign... anything that requires early access to position will be so much more powerful. As now you also control the spawn, so the "I got the bad spawn, I can't rush x" just went down the drain.

This is one of my main reasons for a "no"

The spawn zone is so small I don't think it'd make much difference. Increase the spawn zone and you'd have to reconsider how the map was balanced. So while a nice idea, I think it'd be harder to implement than you think.

No.

1. Spawn points and the division of tanks has a huge effect on map balance. Westfield in particular is prone to balance issues  with regard to spawn. Three or four clan wars ago one side of the map was getting more heavies spawn on the top spawn than the other side and it almost always lead to the team with more heavies spawned at the top of the map winning. If you start letting players choose spawn formation during countdown it will lead to imbalances.

2. Some players need all of the 30 second count down to load into a game.

3. Steve the IS7 player will enjoy randomly picking his spawn placement which will handicap even further the other fourteen members of his team who will be carrying him.

4. Total War works fine because there is plenty of time for the player to learn and refine their set up. Interestingly in Total War lineups that work fine in PvE against the AI will not work in PvP mode against other players and vice versa.
