I must be a masochist cause i love the AMX40. It looks like something out of a 1950's science fiction comic book for starters.
It's the most retro looking tank in the game. The gun is pretty average for it's tier. It is slower than a drunk snail so dont go over anything steeper than a speed bump.
But the real fun starts when your top 5 the class in a game. The AMX40 bounces everything and from all angles. I once spent 2 minutes toe 2 toe against a B1. Got several "steel wall" achievements on it. Max was 38 bounced shots.
I know it says light tank on the box but it really isn't. Treat it like a slow heavy and it'll shine. Treat it like a KV perhaps.
Sure your screwed when the matchmaker throws you in the mix with steel 2 tiers higher but doesnt that go for all tanks?

I guess I must have been really lucky cause not only did I not skip the AMX40, I elited it in 30 so matches with a 77% win rate. And no premium.

How I managed that is beyond me, but I did none the less.

Only thing I have for you is, treat it like a heavy if you're near the top. Just pretend you're a Maus. (use your imagination).
Also angle yourself a little, should reduce that damn weakspot below the turret.
In high tier games, just pick on the smaller guys. If you can. If you can't, go hide in a bush. Maybe the big boys wont find you

Amx 40 is not that bad if the MM doesn't place you as a scout in t6-8 game all the time. I had to grind 3k as soon as I could I used all my free xp on the amx and moved on never looking back. And 9 out of 10 was t7+ games. You dont du much scouting in a t4 that goes at 15km/h.

It's a Tier 4 tank. Remember, for one moment, that the fragile, made of paper T-28 is the least annoying Tier 4 tank to grind through. Once you put the AMX40 in that context, it's not so bad. Though at least we do finally have something to put the A-20 out of its place for the worst of the lot... At least you can get somewhere, do something, and die QUICKLY in the A-20.

This pile of junk is completely unplayable.:

• Bottom list 70% of matches, lower midlist 20%.
  
• Two kills stolen from me on average per match, as gun aims too slow.
  
• <<<200exp. 50% of wins, due to not being fast enough to actually encounter an enemy.
  
• Gun dings everything of its own tier and above.
  
• Gun misses everything of any tier, even with full zoom, centre mass aim and additional server crosshair.
  
• HE does nothing anymore these days anyway.

Please WG at least give us normal matchmaking so we can actually play this game with this tank. Even A-20 is better as at least it does not prolong our suffering every single match. Other tanks like Pnz38NA, Lee and T28 are perfectly playable, but this is just cheap torture.

Today I played my first matches with the AMX-40, this thing is far from bad. When you're against your own tier and lower it's practically invincible! I just played a match were I killed 3 tier4 tanks and a tier2 arty. I've been hit 68 times before I died. At one point the enemy tanks standing next to me just gave up shooting because the couldn't damage me. I had been able to do much better though and take more hits before I died if I payed attention where my enemies were and place my armour like I should.

it got to be the slowest even slower than the is4 and thats fantastic and the gun dosent do enything the highest gun on a tier4 is a tier 3 gun and congrats all that got the bounsing armour on it i sure hadent and if ive hadent seenit when artying i whold belived that it was a lye.

Got raped by t50 leopard and all tier 3-4 lights they penetrate my front armor like 75% times and there ROF allow them to kill me because I can't even reload, when i can't even penetrate them.

I finished him keep him because he look fun but he is not fun to play at all, and the armor is higly relative. the hotkiss and B1 had real armors for there respectiv tiers.

I only have pure hate for this tank, mostly because of the way it's matched.

The AMX is pretty much the same as the B1, less hp and speed but better armor and gun. So why in the nine hells does it regularly get into t7 and up battles?

I have some 30 games in it and about five battles were against equal tiers with me in the top five tanks, these battles were okay, fun even, everything else is pretty much double tapping R and Alt+Tabbing until you get oneshotted by anything.

This tank is either half finished or a very early (and a bad) April Fools joke.


Kudos to WG for never failing to dissappoint in an update.

I play AMX40 and B1 simultaneously and IMO, AMX40 is far better then B1. Better gun, better armor, 1v1 B1 has no chance against AMX. In tier IV battle, AMX40 rulez. But yes, in Tier V or higher battle, AMX40 is useless.

I hated french AMX38 and AMX40 until i realized, that they are the real steel wall in their tier. Especially AMX38 is capable of direct attack in tier III battle almost everywhere (Himmelsdorf ...). Once I survived 117 hits with this little beast and won - never happened to me in any other tank.

I started this thing with 50% crew, was awful at start but after 38 battles I was 53% win and 31 killed in 38 battles. Takes a lot of punishment but its so slow just need to plan where you are going cos you sure as heck can't change your mind

Well, all I can say to those who like and can make a difference with this tank is "Well done" , you've found a way of playing it that utterly escapes me.

I am far from a WoT God (far, far from unfortunately) but thus far I have 2 wins from 11 games with this hunk of junk and have nearly thrown in the towel despite using all my free XP to get even this far. It is despicable, not helped by me only getting 1 game where I was within the top 6 tanks (and getting 1 shotted buy the top tank in that game).

Yes, I have had a bad time of it generally recently for some reason (across the garage) and yes, 11 games can give rise to a statistical anomaly, but the tank is the only thing that I can think of which makes the M3 Lee fun to play.

I find the French tree bizarre. Up to the Amx40 they seem UP, the Amx12 seems fair, but anything higher tier seems OP.  Had a game today (not one with the 40, Kv from memory and I was at the low end of the ranking) where the other team had 10 French tanks due to the 'questionable' (trying not to get banned on my first post) MM putting similar tanks together.  We nad none.  Despite us having some decent Russian metal we were totally and utterly annihilated by this blur of blueish coloured objects whizzing in between us all

It's a great tank for its' comedic value. Just got it and I just couldn't stop laughing while I was looking at it from the right side (with the stock turret of course)

It is boring tank,but with proper playing it can be AWESOME...
Evere 2nd game i am in the game with my tiers,there i own,i get 2 or 3 kills per a round
I have 61 or 69 % of winning with him...
I started to love him!

This tank has no redeeming features whatsoever. The armour looks good on paper for its class but when you fight higher tier tanks (as you almost always do) it does not help at all.
Ditch it asap.
