So I can name it? Can I put pictures of it in a post BUT NOT link to it?

Hmm.

[thin ice...]

It's called Mechwarrior Online.

The fourth Devblog just came out. I'm sure you can find it.

It looks like a WoT clone. Except with frikkin 'uge robots.
After a read of the blogs I can say they have emulated...

- F2P
- Credits and gold
- The module system (for those unfamiliar with Battletech... each mech had a weight limit and could basically strip or mount any equipment so long as it wasn't over this limit. You could take a super-heavy assault mech, strip all it's armor off, give it 50 tons of jump jets and fly around like Peter Pan. But no longer. They have taken that out and replaced it with a much simpler system where each mech has a few variations with only a selection of modules. Basically like WoT but with a bit more choice.)
- Battle roles - Scout, Attack, Defense
- Artificially close range battles (to avoid circle strafing and boring sniping)
- Clan Warfare
- LOS spotting system and minimap, basically identical.

And stuff they have added to the basic WoT formula...

- Faction System - quite apart from Clans, we have Factions. You can sign up on the side of an NPC Faction, earn Loyalty Points by defeating players from rival factions, control worlds, all that good stuff.
- An 'EVE-like' World Map - Core Worlds are controlled by devs who run story campaigns on them, middle worlds are fought over by PVP factions, edge worlds are fought over by clans.
- Added role in battle - Command, which seems to function as the hub of your team's radio coverage and can actually set dynamic objectives which reward the team with XP when achieved!
- Enlarged Scouting and Defense roles - Scouts will have special abilities, likewise for Defense.
- Pilot Skills - You level up your pilot and your individual mechs as well.
-Loads more trees - A pilot skill tree, a module tree, different trees for different variations of mechs

Looks interesting.

I saw something about it on "Rock, Paper, Shotgun" a few days back and it does look interesting. Its going to use CryEngine 2.0 so its going to look pretty good, i'll wager

I think i'm highly likely to take an extended peek at it once it comes out!

I just like how it's a 'Greatest Hits' of the stuff WG will never put into WoT.

The Mechwarrior devs couldn't go far wrong publicly taking the **** out of WG, maybe doing an interview where they list their 'un-named competitors faults', get themselves a few hundred thousand loyal customers...

Also, big **** off robots with lazors and jetpacks. Always good.

No dedicated arty mechs. Every weapon I've seen thus far is direct-fire, with the exception of Long Range Missiles which are more fire-and-forget than strictly indirect fire. Worth noting something I missed first time around...

- Information Warfare. Yup! Jamming, chaff, spoof signals, the lot. Will actually allow players to specialise away from guns, going to add a whole other layer of metagame and obviously massively increased roles for small fast vehicles. Probably useful for jamming those LRMs, too.

However. The Command role seems to be able to call in killstreak-like powers. Not much info on how they are rationed. Command can cast scans on areas, order drone strikes, arty strikes or an orbital bombardment or something.

So, yes, in a way. I would imagine that it's rather limited, being restricted to a extra power available in only one type of mech.

So... There will be indirect fire, but there's also a load of ways to conceal yourself, trick them or jam their radar.

Commander Skills:

    • Order View – Allows the pilot to right click and request friendly BattleMechs to attack or defend areas/objectives on the BattleGrid
    • Command View – Provides a layer of information over the BattleGrid including objectives and any intelligence information passed back by scout Mechs on the front line
    • Call Air Strike – Calls in an air strike that does AOE damage in a straight line
    • Call Artillery – Calls in a land based artillery bombardment on to a target area
    • Call Naval Bombardment – Calls in Naval artillery bombardment that has a larger and more powerful result than regular artillery
    • Call UAV – Calls a UAV that passes overhead of the battlefield and relays ALL enemy positions to the command pilot
    • Call Predator Drone – Drops a heavy explosive device on a targeted area
    • Call Satellite Sweep – Full detail information is passed to the command pilot including enemy location/direction/speed
    • Danger Close – A short range radar detection system that lets the command pilot know of any nearby enemy BattleMechs

Good sire, you forget the fact that Mechwarrior is still not out yet. May I ask how many years is it under developement?
WoT is just out for 1,5 years and STILL in Beta.
If you want to troll WoT and the devs, go to the rant topics.

Also...Aliens gonna be OP with their TXyZpUe 5609.

Ahhhh, MechWarrior4, LRM carriers combined with 2 or 3 scout mechs using NARC, the LRM boats hide in concealed positions, don't even need LOS, a scout goes out, finds a bad guy, NARCS him (lands a hit with a missile like homing beacon on the hull of an enemy mech) and calls out to the boats to launch...ALL the LRM's do a nice little dance directly at the NARC'd mech! THAT IS ARTY IN ITS ULTIMATE FORM! And I loved it!!! /ME was always the crazy scout that got to the enemy and NARC'd 'im in 'is bottom!!! And as far as I know, this will be available in this new game too.

"All players will have access to the BattleGrid but only the commander will have interactivity with it. It would be in your best interest to keep him protected at all times."

Wow. So your Commander isn't just a support and information role. He's the only one who can ping the minimap.

Could be interesting.

Ok, random matches will be the crapshoot they are in WoT. But if you get a few people who want to listen to the Commander... And of course, fulfilling his orders gets you XP...

Carrot not Belorussian stick. I like it.

Oh and word at the moment is that battles will be 12 v 12, maybe even 8 v 8 if they are having trouble. Hmm. Wouldn't be very impressed with 8 v 8.

Looks good!

I recently applied for:
World of Warplanes Alpha
Hedone Beta
The Secret World Beta
Audiosurf Air Beta

Yet I received no invitations so far.. (it only worked for WoT so far..)
(And btw: TSW said I could play closed beta, but I can't for some reason)

But I'll apply for the MechWarrior Beta anyway  :)

P.S.: I couldn't find out: Is it going to be free2play or not?
