When I go to bed, I like to read a good book.

The trouble is, that on a regular basis I can hardly keep my eyes open and so often I only read a small amount. This would be fine, but I suffer from a terrible memory and so each time I read a book I have to turn back a couple of pages to remember what's going on.

This means that quite often events often take place twice or even three times, people meet each other for the first time several times, and worst of all when I am reading a murder mystery, characters that have died a horrible death often re-appear and in good health. If I am having a very tiring week or month at work, often I will arrive right back at the start of the book so sometimes I end up finishing it without even starting it.

Any ideas?

Doughole, your memory is not faulty at all - it just exists in a non-linear timeline. As a book by definition is linear, it is no wonder you're confusing each other.

hahaha, a very familiar problem. luckily it's been a while since I last woke up in the middle of the night with the lights on, my face squished against an open book and half the pages dissolved in drool ...

hmmm try short stories?
coffee?
go go bed earlier?
sit up in bed instead of lying down?
replace book with pr0n?

Maybe those books arent so interesting for you. I remember reading one and couldn't keep eyes open for few minutes till start. I took another and could stay awake longer

this sometimes works for me

when i start to read i place a match in between my toes, when i start to feel tired i light it, then as i start to drop off it burns my toes - instantly awake again! just repeat the process till you want to sleep!!

oh, and i always keep an aloe vera plant by my bedside to cool the burns

sorted

anything else i can help with, just let me know!

Try Graphic Novels!! I'm not taking the piss, there are some quality ones out there whether you like superheroes or not.
Walking Dead started off as a graphic Novel and you truely can't go wrong with any Alan Moore ones.

Currenlty reading the "A song of Ice and Fire" series of books by George R R Martin and i'm absolutely hooked. Hadn't read a book in years then i watched the Sky Atlantic TV series: Game of Thrones and was so taken with it i though what the hell i'd read the books it was taken from.

Really glad i did  :Smile_great:

On a serious note, you could always increase your internal memory by sticking another couple of gig in there. ;)

Oh and lay of the wacky baccy. hehe

Hire a gentleman (must be wearing a dinner jacket and look and sound exactly like Roger Moore) to give you a precis of the story so far whilst you brush your teeth before bed.

He could live in the airing cupboard.

I am going to try all these suggestions at once.

Basically instead of reading I will have a coffee with a smoke, then set fire to myself and then ask my newly employed butler to douse me with water in a linear fashion, whilst I eat USB sticks.

What would I do without you guys?

I wish I could read slowly, I get so engrossed in most books I read through the entire thing in one nonstop go. Plays hell with my sleep pattern sometimes.

aye, same here shanmalinto. If the books is good, I can't put it down. Doesn't happen too often but I had the odd book that made me stay until I had finished reading it...
