Westland Sea King HC4+ (AKA Commando Sea King, 'Jungly' Sea King)

The Royal Navy's workhorse. Operated by 845 and 846 NAS (frontline) and 848 NAS (HQ/training), all based at RNAS Yeovilton (forming, with 847 NAS, the Commando Helicopter Force, 'CHF').

Primary role is to support 3 Commando Brigade (Royal Marines), but can also support the Army when required, including Special Forces such as the SAS - notably in the Falklands War, where 846 NAS were inserting, resupplying and extracting SAS and SBS patrols on the islands at night, using recently acquired night vision goggles that had not previously been used by the squadron (even the aircraft were not ready - the maintainers had to make the cockpits NVG compatible using their initiative, and duct tape of course!). Much of their flying was done at extremely low level (20 feet over the islands, sometimes lower depending on the weather), and often in poor weather conditions.

guys this is not a "I pwn your photo with my photo" thread, this is about vehicles

Ground vehicles, planes and ships
Missiles are also vehicles... just not for humans, but for TNT ;) (I know it is not TNT in missiles, just the "TNT looks cool)

Slava class cruiser of soviet navy

3 slava cruisers are being modernized and retrofitted with much modernized weapons.
A fourth one that was previously cancelled is now being completed

Together with the huge retrofitting and modernizing of the Kirov class battlecruiser, it has again caused concern amongst the US Navy

Primarly for the very long range anti ship missiles and very effective Long range SAM and CIWS systems of these ships

Didn't know the RAF were getting rid of them to be honest. Anyway, I think the long term plan is indeed to replace the Commando Sea Kings with the Merlin (I say long term - I heard about it quite a while ago, but nothing appears to be changing any time soon).

I know what Russkie means, we use it here as well. I meant that it's a Russian submarine, not an American one (it sounded like you weren't sure)

I guessed it was a joke - I just don't get it  :(
