What is the point of TDS!?

I drive a Jpanther, and heavyes of my tier have more visiblity than me... How am i going to ambush someone when he sees me first?
Dont give me that bullshit that i have camo, Jpanthers DO NOT HAVE camouflage value at all! a normal panther has more!
Dont give me that crap that we have better guns too! We have the same guns as our tier counterparts, and maybe annother gun that trades penetration aim time shell price reload time and accuracy for raw damage!
They have more armor, more HP too (by a SIGNIFICANT amount)! And the fact that TDs get worse matchmaking than heavyes just because they are TDs dosent help either!

Panthers are cute.
That should be a good enough reason to drive them.
As for the ambushes, get the cammo net and ALL the cammo skills and stay in 3rd line. I understand you're tempted to go near the front but don't... just don't.

Ask the driver of a t34 med that i destroyed at 692m at siegfried line with the long 88 on my jp. they are great fun sniping tanks. failing that get a su85 with a zis-6, for me the most fun in game.

German TDs begin with fredy... don't get me wrong JagdPanther is nice but it doesn't feel a TD.
in any case TD like arty are very team dependant , you need a spoter and protection from lights and meds get used to it

IMHO view range ought to have been :
Lights > mediums/TD's > Heavies/SPG.
That way heavies would NEED lights and mediums to perform optimally.

The only point to the TDs are that they usually have a better gun than the same tier tanks but not having a turret is too much of a detriment.

Now tell me, how many times you died because you dont have any armor, hp or how many times you died of a frontal hit fire?
The thing is that the tiger can do the same because he has a long 88 too, but more HP, armor, and view range.
And the SU-85, practically the KV has the same gun, except some miliseconds worse load time. and less camo and view range.
But it has twice the armor, twice the HP and has the firepower to one shot the SU-85 straight out

I'm having great fun with my T25 AT.
But then again, that's not a regular TD. You are more of a flanker.
And the frontal armor bounces quite a lot, certainly when you are hull down a bit, anglish that frontal plate and using your gun depression to shoot the poor bastards.
TD's are second line tanks. Leave spotting for the other tanks, you bring your big gun to the fight when the enemy tanks are engaged.
Good alpha damage and great accuracy, the purpose is to hit the enemy hard, while staying far enough away from him, so that there are other friendly tanks more nearby to him to be priority targets over you.

And how can you flank when you have no turret?
Being second line support behind your line sounds great, but i have yet to see a place that you can do that without either: risk hitting your teammates, dont see a crap because all enemy tanks are in cover behind a wall, or enemy tanks are hull down and you bounce them like an idiot. Plus that being support behind the line is a role exclusive for the top heavy of your team most of the time, and the bad part is that he is doing it better than you.

You cant use hull down on TDs, because TDs have ONLY hull.

The hull down position is simply making smart use of hills. You need a brain for that, not a turret.
Flanking is attacking an enemy tank that is engaged. This does not have to be from nearby like with a medium tank. All you need is timing and tactical insights. You need a brain for that, not a turret.
Rule number 1 with everything that shoots bullets: there is always a risk that you hit something you didn't want to hit. In a game, don't let that stop you too much.
Your heavies should actually be the ones engaging the enemy and luring them from behind buildings or hull down positions. If they are "supporting" then your top tier tanks are just leeching and kill stealing on the rest of the team.

tds teach players about the most important skill in this game and that is to camp and camp and camp again your way to victory, always make your opponent expose himself first hit and hide, hit and hide and hit and hide again until you are supergeektastic.

Uhm, Jagdpanther with binoculars has 500m view range (400*1.25). I don't know many heavies with more view range...
